Free Music Review: She has done it again!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

As I have said in past reviews NO ONE matches her voice, but admittedly some of her recent recordings have been better than others. This CD falls in the much better category. This is one to run out and buy. It really is just beautiful and not to be too "cliche" it really does bring her recording career full circle - in many tunes there are reminisces of some of her first recordings but with a deeper lusher tone. Stand outs are Gentle Rain (gorgeous pure singing!!), If You Go Away (haunting, think Je M'appelle Barbra), Where Do You Start (Classic Streisand), Some Other Time (always wanted her to record this favorite). It's also become a cliche but no one sing/acts/delivers a lyric like Streisand and this CD is a perfect example of why that is so true. This is music. I still can't decide which disc (orchestra or quartet) I like better both BEAUTIFUL! So, grab a glass of wine, sit in front of a fire and be treated to a simply gorgeous recording by the premier interpreter of a song of ours, or any generation!!!

Free Music Review: Another Fantastic Recording from Streisand
Hit: 5 Stars

I received this 2 CD recording but due to a manufacturer error both CD's were disc two. I contacted Amazon by e-mail on Saturday evening. They sent me a return label; not only that but I had a new CD on Monday overnight at their expence. This is a fantastic recording. CD 1 is with full orchestra; CD 2 is piano bar type trio. I have one in the living room stereo and the trio version in the car. The songs on this CD are great arrangements and it is as if she has returned to the style of her early recordings only refined by digital technology. They sound great. Diana Krall was a great addition and the songs really grow on you. Barbra was right to have released this CD in both versions. This CD makes you really appreciate the everlasting talent of this great performer and I am looking forward to her autobiography. She is indeed "Timeless." It is as if she has been several different people in one through the decades. Thank you again for your great service Amazon.

Free Music Review: A musical masterstroke
Hit: 5 Stars

In the world of first class musical entertainment, I thought I'd just about heard it all. Out of the box comes a novel concept. A double album with one of the world's best singers, backed by a full orchestra of consummate musicians, playing lush arrangements from the finest in the business, singing a wonderful and not-too-hackneyed selection of songs. On the second disk, the same songs are repeated, this time backed by Diana Krall with her cool trio. This affords us a superb contrast of styles both musically and vocally. Diana Krall's piano playing is very much to the fore weaving so effortlessly in and out of these timeless melodies. My favourites are Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning and If you Go Away. All of Barbra's legion of fans will rush and get this as her performances are few and far between nowadays. Diana's fans will not be disappointed either. A musical marriage made in heaven. Do I sense a reprise?

Free Music Review: Reassuring
Hit: 5 Stars

That an album of literate songs composed by the best and performed by the best has a shot at debuting at #1 is reassuring. That Streisand, once again, is provoking thought and reaction from her audience is also reassuring. She's always enjoyed a dialogue with her public and that kind of dialogue is rare indeed these days. The album is sublime indeed though "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" has me perplexed. It's a unique song of rueful loss, personal disappointment and at the same time social embarrassment, of a tough life lesson learned with great emotional cost. So why she changed the lyric of one of the most hallowed lines in American song and altered the melody has me perplexed. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" essays tragedy, so I'm mystified why toward the end she breaks out into diva noodling with the medley. But I'm not criticizing. Part of the joy of Streisand is she is not only divine; she always gives you something to think about.

Free Music Review: Exquisite Sophistication...Simply Streisand.
Hit: 5 Stars

She hits notes on this album that I didn't thinks he could hit anymore. I am blown away, I tell you. From the first note of "Here's to Life" to the last line of "Some Other Time"...perfection. Barbra has not made an album of this particular quality, intimacy, and consistency since the sixties. No question. There are so many ultimate moments for the Streisand Hall of Fame here.

The inclusion of the second disc of quartet versions is a very special treat. In a perfect world, disc 2 of this deluxe edition would have been the album proper, but as it stands the orchestral arrangements are very subtle and not overpowering at all. Disc 2, however, sounds as though she's singing directly into your ear...her jazz quartet playing right there with her in your living room.

This album is easily her best whole package since "The Broadway Album." Easily. This woman's gift is ageless. Boundless.
