Streisand got me through the rough times when I was growing up as a young gay guy( 4 decade ago in NYC)...didn't know who to turn to....but this version is so visceral...and the cracking of her voice means alot to me!...she's finally "smelling the flowers" etc..the French Album has always been top 5 for me..and being 10-12 yo...it was strange to hear French, which lead me to become fluent later on in life...but there's a certain emotional strain to the songs that can not be achieved by American music...and this version is phenomenal..I did not think so when I first heard it...I can not stop listening to it now...so beautifully done

My precious daughter sent me this new album this week.
I have always been in awe of Barbra Streisand's unbelievable talent. Her voice is a gift to us all. I have most of her "big" albums. And always wanted her to do more.
This album is different. This time she came alone. . . just to sing for you. It is the most soothing, quiet time. I play it for hours.
Perhaps the difference is having Diana Krall involved. It seems that this time Barbra just came to have a relaxed time. . . just wanting to spend some time with you. . . and share her song.
Truly elegant. I hope she will come again soon.

I grew up to Barbra Streisand and have been a life long fan. I also had the great fortune of seeing her live in Las Vegas 3 years ago. With the engagement of Diana Krall (another wonderful singer and arranger), I have to admit I thought this CD would be a little more 'jazzy'. But, because it was different has what I thought it would be, does not take away from the quality of the music and her voice. It is soft, moving and romantic. Even the colors she selected on the cover and inside pictures set the mood. She has produced some songs like this before, to put them on one CD is new for her and she needed to make a CD like this.Free Music Review: WOW!

Streisand does it again.....This CD is her best effort since "The Broadway Album". Her vocals are pure magic and "Where Do You Start" is by far my favorite track. Now all us die hard Barbra fans eagerly wait for The Village Vanguard DVD! A living legend for sure!!
This CD has debuted at #1 on The Billboard Top 200 Chart!
Barbra is now the only artist ever to score number one albums in the last five consecutive DECADES!!
She is the greatest female vocalist of all time and this beautiful collection proves that.

I wanted this CD since it came out this past year. However, until I found a reasonably priced copy on Amazon I avoided purchasing it. The concept of having the Deluxe Edition which contains 2 CD's one with a full orchestra and one with the same songs with a Quartet lets you choose which version you are in the mood hear. The fact that Diana Krall had a lot to do in producing this album is very good since I am a fan of Diana's. As with all albums the songs chosen some good and some just OK depending on a person's choice is to be expected. Overall, it is a great album by a great artist.
