Free Music Review: Barenaked and Fabulous-- For Kids AND Adults!
Hit: 5 Stars

My kids, 5 and 8, love listening to this CD. By default, I've had to listen to it along with them in the car and in the house. I'll have to admit, it's a clever, catchy CD that entertains every time. The Barenaked Ladies do a great job using different types of music: country, jazz, rock, even something that sounds suspiciously (and hillariously) like a homage to Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The 'Ninja' song is a favorite, as is the 'ABC' song. My son is the only 2nd grader in his school who can explain what a czar is and where the Sar is located. We also like the 'Vegetable Town' song, because it makes us think of the book 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs'. Buy this CD. It is great fun!

Free Music Review: Kids love to sing along
Hit: 5 Stars

First a disclaimer - I'm a Barenaked Ladies fan.

I bought this CD for my nephew who just turned 3 (he has a brother age 7). The review I got from mum was "oh my god, they love it!" They love to sing along (as does mum) and as of this week (1.5 weeks after arriving) they won't let her get past the first 2 songs (7,8,9 & Ninja song.) They keep wanting to play these 2 over and over again -- so be warned mums and dads - it might get repetitive initially. Being a Pierre Burton fan I bought this CD for the Pollywog song. My nephews are Canadian.

Can't wait to hear what they have to say when they get to the rest of the album! Rock on Barenaked Ladies!

Free Music Review: Great CD for kids and parents!
Hit: 5 Stars

This has quickly become a favorite CD to listen to with our kids (ages 4 & 1.5). The music is top-notch and the lyrics are clever. It should appeal to children of different ages (my youngest love to bop to the beat, while my older one enjoys the wordplay and tries to come up with her own verses to some of the songs). Like many great children's entertainment, there are sly jokes for parents (e.g., "Canadian Snacktime Trilogy" is a very clever take on Lightfoot's famous "Canadian Railroad Trilogy"). Bottom line is that BNL are great musicians having fun on an album that holds up to multiple listenings, and that kids and parents will both enjoy.

Free Music Review: getting my son hooked!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have loved BNL since Gordan, and I am so glad they did this kids album! I am getting my kids hooked on one of my favorite bands! Witty lyrics that kids get and adults can enjoy too. After we listen to this a little longer I plan on exposing my son to the 'real' BNL stuff, and I know he will enjoy it because he loves the kid album. We did this with They Might Be Giants, moving from the kids music to the adult, and now we can all listen to my favorite bands together! If you love The Ladies, you will love this CD! Now if we can just get They Might Be Giants and BNL to to a kids tour together...

Free Music Review: Great CD for kids and adults!
Hit: 5 Stars

BNL didn't stint on effort or skill on this CD for kids, it's as good as any of their other stuff. The songs are different from each other and all have funny and/or touching lyrics. Quite a few are slow, and some are extremely short, but the slow ones are lovely, and great to lull to sleep if that's your goal. My 12-month-old son likes it, my 8-year-old nephew and 10-year-old niece love it (especially Popcorn), and my husband and I enjoy it. My favorites are 789 and Pollywog in a Bog (LOVE that song!). You won't go wrong with this CD, especially if you're already a BNL fan!
