Free Music Review: Great job (again), Barry!

Well, I wondered what Barry would do with the '80s. I couldn't even remember anything from the '80s that I liked, but darn if B didn't find some real good uns! He has a way of singing these songs that make me really hear the words as I never did before. B's enunciation is very clear, unlike many artists over the years. There is a really nice selection here. Some of these songs, I didn't even really appreciate until after I heard B do them. He puts so much feeling into his music.
There are 12 great songs in all, for a total of about 45 minutes, and B shines once again.
1) Islands in the Stream--(4:07) a bouncy duet with Reba McEntire, a country song that has Reba doing the track overlay thing that Barry does from time to time.
2) Open Arms--(3:41) my favorite on the album, just because it is. It sounds so beautiful and has so much feeling in it. Listening to the song with all the feeling B puts into it, the Pisces in me can visualize the scenes from the words (like a movie)- the guy coming towards his lady with his arms open, singing this song. *sigh* (a hopeless romantic)
3) Never Gonna Give You Up--(2:55) my 2nd favorite on the album, this song was made famous by Rick Astley, the kid with the big voice (from Britain, I believe.) I have always loved this up-tempo song and the very lively Astley album it came from. I would have never guessed this one for B but he does a great job with it and I am so glad he selected it.
4) Have I Told You Lately (that I love you)--(4:03) another song I love. (I really love them all.) Of course, B does a great job with this one too--slow and pretty. I actually have it on one of his other albums as a bonus track.
5) I Just Called to Say I Love You--(4:07) light guitar, sounds like an easy-listening bossa-nova--pretty.
6) Against All Odds (Take a Look At Me Now)--(3:13) OMG! So much feeling in this one--another one I can visualize. B sings certain songs with so much feeling that I can feel them in my heart. I just love this one-slow and pretty.
7) Careless Whisper--(4:00)Which one was this, you ask? "I'm never gonna dance again. Guilty feet, I've got no rhythm. . .I'm never gonna dance again, the way I danced with you. . ." Sound familiar? Slow and pretty. Yes, another one I can visualize.
8) Right Here Waiting--(3:39) slow and pretty
9) Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)--(3:48) Now who did not see this Arthur movie? I think pretty much everybody knows this song unless they were away on another planet for about 25 years. (As a matter of fact, I think I need to add that movie to my dvd collection.) B does a great job with the song-kind of up-tempo but slow. The sax player is great too--plays his little heart out.
10) Hard To Say I'm Sorry--(4:05) slow and pretty--a lot of feeling.
11) Time After Time--(4:08) also slow and pretty. When I saw the title, I was thinking of the old song but this ain't it. This one is: "If you're lost and you look, you will find me, time after time. . ."
12) I've Had the Time of My Life--(3:55) Now who did not watch Dirty Dancing at least 20 times? Come on--step right up! This is the final song in the movie where everybody at the resort starts dancing. B does this one as a slow ballad and it is very nice.
This album completes B's wonderful series of albums of the '40s through the '80s (Singin' With the Big Bands; Songs of the '50s; Songs of the '60s; Greatest Songs of the '70s; The Greatest Songs of the Eighties)-or DOES IT???
Go ahead, Barry--Now do the '90s. I DARE YA! I bet ya a sawbuck that ya can't do it! (he he)
