Free Music Notes for Basquiat: Original Soundtrack - Music From The Miramax Film

The sountrack echoed the movement of the film to a tee. It complimented the story and on its own evokes a full range of emotions. After my buddy ( we'll call him cricket pants) bought the soundtrack he actually, after twenty years, began opening his mind to new music ( Ie, music beyond the realm of Further Festival headliners). Now he even lets me play the Pogues from time to time. At the risk of being redundant and repetitive and redundant and repetitive, I loved it I loved it I loved it. This soundtrack is as satisfying as it is true to to the essence of the artist that inspired it. And to all those sophomoric sleuths above who bent over backwards to showcaes thier very extensive knowledge of Basquit, I doubt seriously that his music collection was barried along with him. Silly mortals.

Free Music Review: Incredible Compilation
Hit: 5 Stars

I place this soundtrack in the upper echelon of film soundtracks. It has had such a profound impact on my musical taste, as the film had on my taste for visual art. "Tom Traubert's blues" was my introduction to Tom Waits and I've devoured everything else since then, and long to play his songs on the keyboards. Brian Kelly's " and Keith Richards' "The Nearness of you" (which was in the film but unfortunately not on this soundtrack probably because it was a studio session)are also incredible. Need I mention "It's all over now, baby blue" by Van Morrison? One of his finest songs... A must have!!!

Free Music Review: The soundtrack is just like the movie
Hit: 5 Stars

The movie was great (David Bowie! Gary Oldman! how could it get better!). It's the true story of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and what makes this soundtrack so special is that Basquiat himself was a selector of the music. This soundtrack introdused me to high energy bands like Joy Division and Todies, and to moving singers like John Cale and Gavin Friday. But my orginal reason for buying this album was for Nick Martons Taylor's "Suicide Hotline", if you saw the movie you'll understand, and if you haven't seen the movie, I believe, Suicide Hotline is still enjoyable.

Free Music Review: Basquiat Opening Title Song: Fairy Tale of New York
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great soundtrack! Fans of the movie should be aware, however, that the most requested song from the film, the title track "Fairy Tale of New York" by the Pogues is not included in this CD.

(To provide some recollection, this is the quiet melody played during the emotional title sequence in which young Basquiat accompanies his mother at the museum. The actual song is actually quite fractured, with the soft "drunk-tank" description at the beginning and a celebratory, quick paced Irish-style anthem in the second part.)

Free Music Review: Sensational
Hit: 5 Stars

The music to this film is an example of what's called "synchronicity"...it has a totoal harmony and resonance with the film. Unfortunately a couple of the great songs featured in the movie don't appear on the cd-but it's still a wonderful buy. And not just for those who loved the film. Though the music may be slightly artsy for those who didn't like the film at all, in general it's a perfect compilation of both "up" and "down" music-some of it incredibly touching! This is a necessity in any music collection.
