Free Music Review: Missing a few essential pieces of the puzzle
Hit: 4 Stars

A good rock soundtrack that could be better with a few missing pieces restored. Whatever kept the songs off this album originally, an expanded reissue would have to include the credits-opening "Fairytale of New York." The song sets the tone for the rest of the movie, and it's really missing here. Kirsty MacColl's duet featuring Shane MacGowan is available on an import best-of album called "Galore," for those who want to track it down. I don't think anyone expects the Stones to give away "Waiting on a Friend" to a soundtrack (that would have been a nice gesture) but Keith Richards's bootleg version of "Nearness of You" should now be included, as he's doing the song with the Stones these days putting it into the "official release" category. Finally, "Red House" by Tom Waits needs to be here as well, to bookend "Tom Traubert's Blues." Island Records should think about remastering this compilation and give fans of the movie a complete, essential soundtrack. On the plus side, it's worth every cent to have John Cale's version of "Hallelujah" here, and another reviewer noted Bowie's remarkable remake of "Small Plot of Land." Almost worth a five star rating, but just not quite. Yet.

Free Music Review: A Little Disappointed
Hit: 4 Stars

I loved the movie "Basquiat" and one of the things I loved most about it was the music. I wouldn't sell my copy of the soundtrack but I have to admit, I was a little disappointed to find that quite a few of the songs in the movie do not appear on the soundtrack. What further confused me was the fact that some of the songs less prominently featured in the movie were included on the cd, making the absence of the others that much more glaring. Makes you wonder what the producers of the cd were thinking by not including so much as a single track from the film's original score. I was excited to find the "Suicide Hotline" track on the cd, but was quickly disappointed by the fact it only runs 2:08. Still, I recommend the cd for hard-core "Basquiat" fans. Just a heads-up to all those potential purchasers who may find themselves a little disappointed by the overall product.

Free Music Review: Good but incomplete
Hit: 4 Stars

The movie contains more good music than the contained in this CD. A good movie with very good music.

To clarify a question asked in other review, the bike ride song it's not an instrumental song, it's only the starting part of "India" from the Psychedelic Furs first disc. At the movie the music finish just before the moment in that the song explodes, and if you only ear that part you don't will know the essence of that song. A fantastic song, the same that the whole disc, the debut disc of this band released in 1980 and re-releashed with all their discography in the past years. With The Sound and The Chameleons, one of my favourite groups in these days. Their music sound still fresh after more than 20 years.

Free Music Review: Good But Buy The Film Instead
Hit: 4 Stars

This a good soundtrack to a great film. Wait's, Public Enemy, and Van Morrison's cover of Dylan's "Its All Over Now Baby Blue" are all great. In response to the fellow from Sydney about the Jazz track, that was Blue and Green, from the album Kind Of Blue, by Miles Davis. The whole CD is great and there are actually a few other Miles songs in the movie. Does anyone know what song is played during opening titles, I love it but have no idea what it is. This a good cd, but your money would be better spent on a movie that is worth owning twice.
