Free Music Review: Definitely Worth Listening To
Hit: 4 Stars

If you like Heather Nova, Bjork, Kate Bush, Blackmore's Night-(Candice), and Hooverphonic you won't be disappointed. Her voice has a nice blend similar to those female vocalists.

Free Music Review: Different and Refreshing
Hit: 4 Stars

I love this entire CD. It has a great variety of different emotion and sounds. I heard "What's a Girl To Do" originally and I instantly loved it, so I previewed some of the other songs and bought the album. I didn't have to listen to the album a number of times to like the songs. They are each beautiful and emotional. I especially love "The Wizard" and "The Bat's Mouth", they give me chills everytime single time. Good for people that like Feist, Imogen Heap, or Rilo Kiley.

Free Music Review: Pretty mellow
Hit: 4 Stars

Read reviews comparing F&G to Tori Amos and Bjork. Wouldn't agree with the Bjork comparison. Album seemed pretty mellow to me, but pretty good...maybe more of a 3.5 than 4.

Free Music Review: eight out of ten, actually
Hit: 4 Stars

While the deceiving single "What's a Girl to Do?" may lead many to believe rabid Portishead fans have come full circle and turned trip hop to indie, the remainder of the album is oriented towards those people who once loved Tori Amos but now hide her in shame. Equal parts eerie atmospheres and steely eyed female voice/piano (even while she covers Springsteen's "I'm on Fire"), but you won't find much drums at all outside of the single. Many compare her to Kate Bush, but I would go for an example more like "From the Choirgirl Hotel" or Bjork's slower material like "Vespertine" or "Selma Songs"...maybe even PJ Harvey's "Songs from the City, Songs from the Sea." If you are into a couple of those albums then I can confidently recommend the whole album, but for the rest of you...go to Youtube right now and watch "What's a Girl to Do." Your mind will ache.

Free Music Review: Desite the name...
Hit: 4 Stars

which managed to keep me at bay for quite a while, this turned out to be a reasonably enjoyable debut. Upon repeated listenings, however, I did find some of the lyrics more than a trifle cringeworthy. It's as if she's reaching for the same childish faerie-musings as the likes of... say Cocorosie, but there's definitely a less expressionistic and more literally mapped quality to some of the yarns that might fare better in the hands of a more accomplished lyricist. Instead, in my opinion, they come off sounding occasionally prosaic and forced, milking the magic from the mare, as it were. On the other hand, I do find the arrangements and instrument choices supremely blissful, and her voice manages to effectively carry her somewhat pedestrian sense of mysticism. However, for love of all the boys and girls out there who refuse to trade in musings of glacial palaces, fire-hooved steeds and winged-tiger saviors for a life of mindless wage-slaving for the marketed "perks" of capitalism...I give this offering a 4. I do highly recommend Faun Fables (Mother Twilight or Family Album) or Cocorosie as a no less magical complement to this album.
