Free Music Notes for Batman Forever: Original Motion Picture Score

Free Music Review: Exciting, Powerful, Dramatic, and Funny
Hit: 4 Stars

This album is very good even though it was done (in areas) in a rather goofy manner. I like it when a composer shows their funny side. A lot of people think that Danny Elfman's scores to the first two installments were better because they were "darker" but I disagree. His scores were ,in areas, even brighter than this one. For example, the song for the roof fight on the first Batman sounds considerably like a circus. This might be thought of as a creative genius at work, but I see it as a waste of time. It totally takes away from the action of the scene by creating a bright circus-like atmosphere. For this score, Goldenthal keeps it serious unless something is amusing on screen and not once destroys a scene like Elfman. This album has everything a good score should have, plus a good sense of humor. In conclusion, if you are looking for the power and sense of humor of this film expressed musically, buy it (especially if you are a Goldenthal fan).

Free Music Review: Batman is nothing without his main theme
Hit: 1 Stars

I did not like this soundtrack one bit. First of all I didn't like the movie because it made Batman look stupid and dull. Batman is a dark detective, he scares his opponents. Just like the Tim Burton movies. Danny Elfman is gone and it's nothing. What's with this Elliot Goldenthal score making it sound some what like a superhero theme? Danny Elfman's score for the original Batman was awesome and I always read the comics while listening to his music. Batman Returns was even better with the addition of the chorus. You can't read Batman V.S. Predator without listening to Batman Returns. (Just a suggestion to comic book/batman fans out there) Anyway don't buy this Batman forever piece.

Free Music Review: One of Goldenthal' funnest scores!
Hit: 4 Stars

This is definitely a very fun score to listen to and works wonders in the film! Elfman's score fits the Tim Burton Batman films perfectly, but both of Goldenthal's score fit Mr. Shumachers rendiotions of the Dark Knight to a tee! Excellent work, Mr. Goldenthal! Batman Forever is dark, jazzy, and exciting all at the same time! This is probably Goldenthal's funnest, most entertaining score of all time! Thematically, he's written MUCH better material, but this is classic Goldenthal.

Free Music Review: A Darker And Crazier Batman Score
Hit: 3 Stars

Danny Elfman's music for Batman and Batman Returns was perfectly dark for the caped crusader. His theme is almost as immortal as the Indiana Jones and Jaws theme. After stepping down, Elliot Goldenthail took over. The Batman theme, to many people's dismay, doesn't appear in this movie. The setting for Gotham City is different on Batman Forever and the music reflects this. It has a slight jazzy, swingy quality to it and only adds to the crazy, upside-down city. Any Elliot Goldenthail fan knows about all the interesting brass effects (trills, wailings, etc.) he uses and they're all here but don't necessarily detract. The Batman march is now more of a small motif that does more of striking fear than a sense of heroics. While it doesn't appear as much, to my dismay, it is excellent and does quite well against Elfman's theme. Two-Face's theme is like a overly-demented version of Hook's theme with less playfulness and some harsh chord progressions. Nygma Variations and the other tracks dealing with the Riddler are crazy and stupid. It makes you want to hope Batman socks him in the face, though. "Perpetuum Mobile" and "Gotham City Boogie" are examples of overexagerrated, jazzy action tracks that should be annoyed. The high-pitched squealing muted trumpet on "Chase Noir" that Elliot Goldenthail used adds the feeling of a noir movie but it is plain annoying as well. Towards the ending of the album, the album begins to become dark and listenable. The last two tracks remind me of "Up The Cathedral" from Batman but with more brass. Batman Forever isn't neccesarily a bad album. Elliot Goldenthail excellently portrays the wacky action and locales but can sometimes become as unbearable as the movie. I only recommend it for people who are tolerant of dark and startling crazy music. I bet most classical and film composers alike would be appaled by his original style of composing.

Free Music Review: The ship that could not sail
Hit: 4 Stars

Goldenthal's score here is wonderfully bombastic. However, the music clearyly overwhelms the film (which isn't nessesarily a bad thing). It's not a typical "Batman" score, more Goldenthal's interpretation of what the whole bat-thing is(loud, spectacle, grand, playful, fantastic, unrealistic). I find the track "Under the Tent"(I believe that's what it's called)to be great. Anyway, just my two cents!
