Free Music Notes for Irish Rebel Songs
Free Music Review: Not what I expected, but very pleased!

This collection of traditional Irish Republican songs turned out not to be what one might expect. Instead of the traditional Wolfe Tones or Tommy Makem type album, the group Battering Ram really takes these traditional songs and makes them their own. The music has a raw, wild edge to it, and is not "dumbed down" for non-Irish audiences. You can hear in their voices that Battering Ram is singing for the pure joy of song, not trying to turn a quick buck from a few sympathetic yanks. Saying this album is good is faint praise indeed. The only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars was the CD itself, which refused to play correctly in my truck's CD player. However, it played fine on my computer, so nothing lost but the convienence.
