Free Music Notes for Battlestar Galactica: Season 4 AlbumFree Music Review: One recycled disc? Hit: 3 Stars
"Going green" is not desirable from a creative point of view. Sorry Mr. McCreary, but you've taken recycling too far with your work on the first disc in this season's soundtrack. I'm hardly hearing anything new or innovative here. Of course, there are some standouts thanks to the piano pieces ("Kara Remembers" and "Dreilide Thrace Sonata No. 1"), and "Diaspora Oratorio" is just beautiful. But the rest are simply too derivative from the first three seasons' scores.
Apparently, all of the musical innovation was reserved for the "Daybreak" CD (Disc 2). "The Line" and "Assault on the Colony" have their moments. "Kara's Coordinates," which necessarily contains some melodies reminiscent of earlier work, is incredible. And "Heart of the Sun" nicely works in the original series theme a.k.a. the Colonial Anthem, while conveying all of the emotions of that scene.
This is great to have for completeness, but otherwise, the "wow" factor here is lacking compared to past seasons.
