Free Music Review: Compelling soundrack music
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a must if you're a BSG fan! I would highly recommend this sountrack.

Free Music Review: 5-star first CD, 4-star second
Hit: 4 Stars

I already own and adore the second- and third- season soundtracks to BSG and love them, so I bought this soundtrack with high expectations. Unsurprisingly, Bear McCreary pulled it off again, delivering a stunningly beautiful and emotionally moving soundtrack. The first CD, especially, is a remarkable work of art. It's especially poignant to loyal fans of the show, of course, but listeners new to the BSG universe can still appreciate it for what it is -- good music. The second CD, which consists of the soundtrack to the final episode ("Daybreak"), is similarly well-composed but suffers somewhat from a lack of cohesion. The Daybreak soundtrack is, of course, music specifically written for the action of the episode. at more than 70 minutes of music, it also includes MOST of the episode's music. The problem with this recording paradigm is that music that's effective in a show and in a scene isn't always effective on its own. A TV viewer expects the music to directly mirror the events in the episode, whereas a CD listener expects the music to roughly follow musical forms and conventions. Until now, Bear McCreary has managed to play to both audiences by picking and choosing the most cohesive music from the show and splicing it into music that sounds composed for a CD and not a show. With the Daybreak soundtrack, however, I think McCreary has pulled too much directly from the episode's music, producing a soundtrack that while beautiful and stirring, sometimes seems to meander randomly about without the guiding direction of the scenes it was written to accompany. Arguably, that might not be a bad thing -- it may be that McCreary has simply learned to better match his music to the scene, which produces a less cohesive soundtrack as a by-product. In any case, this one flaw with the second soundtrack earns a slight demerit in my eyes. I would give the CD a 4 1/2 star review if possible; as is, a 4 star review will have to suffice.

Free Music Review: Heartbreaking.....
Hit: 4 Stars

or I just really need to take "Gaeta's Lament" off repeat, but the more is hear it the more I love it. I don't think ,as a whole, this fourth disc is really as good as Season 2, but not much can top "Prelude to War" for me. That said, this disc is packed with music that just makes me want to cry, and that's good. Any true fan of BSG should add this last season's discs to their collection.

Note: I didn't have any problems ripping the music to my computer.

Free Music Review: Great music but has misrecorded track
Hit: 4 Stars

Like the other soundtracks of this series, the music is terrific. But has anyone besides me noticed that the last track on the second CD starts late and is cut off early?

Free Music Review: Long Live Galactica!
Hit: 4 Stars

Loved the show and didn't want to see it end. Bear McCreary is a genius!
