Free Music Notes for Battlestar Galactica: Season 4

Free Music Review: BSG Season 4 = extraordinary!
Hit: 5 Stars

If you're interested in getting this album, it's likely that you're familiar with Bear McCreary's work from the first three seasons. And if that's the case, then you must know that the music is incredible. It is the true backbone of Battlestar Galactica. The season 4 soundtrack is truly an example of the best being saved for last. And we have really been spoiled in that it is a 2-disc release, the second disc focusing entirely on the score for the grand finale of the series "Daybreak". All the familiar themes are here on this album, with new arrangements, incarnations, new themes altogether, and all of it put together with immense amounts of love. What's great about these albums is that they are as enjoyable as the show itself, so you can take BSG joy with you wherever you want with the music being available to purchase like this. Do yourself a favour - buy the album on CD to appreciate the full sonic brilliance of these recordings. You won't be disappointed. Standout tracks? I'm not going to split hairs over tracks on this album. All of it has been put together with the same amount of care and it is all an incredible pleasure to listen to. So say we all!!

Free Music Review: Excellent Music for Final Season
Hit: 5 Stars

When Battlestar Galactica began, I was disappointed that they were not keeping the music from the original television series, aside from occasional cues.

After four full seasons (plus the miniseries) I have to confess to being incredibly wrong in that initial opinion. Bear McCreary created an incredible voice for the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. As with other soundtracks, there is a lot of mixing of inspirations, from Scottish bagpipes to east and south Asian-inspired themes. While there is a lot of recycling of previous themes from earlier seasons, the mood of the music has changed to be more final - sometimes with a bittersweet quality, sometimes with a triumphant one. I've also noted a significant increase in percussion which really adds to the sense of finality.

The first disc contains music from the bulk of the season while the second is exclusively dedicated to the final episode, "Daybreak". This feels fitting as it allows us to say farewell to all the characters and to the fleet itself, which is given a glorious sendoff making excellent use of the original Battlestar Galactica theme.

Free Music Review: Frakking amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

The first time I ever watched Battlestar Galactica, one of the very first things I noticed was the engaging, skillful soundtrack that set the mood perfectly for every scene. Incredibly, Bear McCreary's scores only got better and better as the series went on, and this is masterfully reflected in the Season 4 soundtrack. This is truly an awesome magnum opus and is a must own for EVERY BSG fan out there - heck, it's a must own for anyone who loves beautiful music. The use of literally dozens of different and unconventional instruments and styles again serves McCreary well - there's everything here from string variations to tribal drums to Celtic woodwinds and more. All the stirring and emotional moments of the series come back to vivid life with every replay. Mr. McCreary listened to his fans who proclaimed on his blog their overwhelming support for the S4 soundtrack to include the entire "Daybreak" score, and it is included as the second disk in this set.

Really, I can't stress enough what a worthwhile purchase this is.

Free Music Review: Great Soundtrack!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This soundtrack should be in possession of any BSG fan! The first CD seems to be songs from Season 4, and CD 2 appears to be songs from the series finale.

The musical score from season 4 was incredible, and listening to tracks from this soundtrack like "Assault on the Colony" can make you visualize the admiral saying his epic speech in the last episode:

"This is the Admiral. Just so there will be no misunderstandings later. Galactica has seen a lot of history, gone through a lot of battles. This will be her last. She will not fail us... if we do not fail her. If we succeed in our mission, Galactica will bring us home. If we don't, it doesn't matter anyways."

Some other favorite tracks:

Goodbye Sam
Starbuck Disappears
Farwell Apollo

You get two CD's and over two hours of music - owning this album is well worth the price!

Free Music Review: This soundtrack just blows me away
Hit: 5 Stars

It is impossible for me to fully explain how much I adore this soundtrack. Normally I have no problem in making a track to track analysis to point out the strength and weaknesses. There are NO weaknesses at all on this album. It starts of with "Gaeta's Lament" and Alessandro Juliani blows the listener away with his goregous and heart wrenching performance. Bear you have outdone yourself. I know I am saying that with each score from him but I really mean it this time. I can't even give a decent review for the score because the whole thing just WOWs me and I have this urge to make every single piece a favourite on LastFM. Yes it is THAT good.

I am very, very much in awe of this soundtrack and declare it the best frakking score of the year! The second disc should be listened with caution. It has basically the same effect as the finale, which means that you will probably need a lot of tissue.
