Free Music Notes for Battlestar Galactica: Season 4Free Music Review: Outstanding presentation of some outstanding work. Hit: 5 Stars
Bear McCreary's work on Battlestar Galactica Season 4 has produced some of the most powerful, intimate, intelligent and enjoyable music written for television in the last 20 years.
Following on from his fantastic album for Season 3, each cue is a joy to listen to, irrespective of the series for which it was written, and hilights everything from string orchestra, taiko dum ensemble, rock band and chinese string instruments to produce a unique and diverse soundscape unmatched by anything else.
All of the performers, from Raya Yarbrough and Alissandro Juliani's haunting vocals, to Steve Bartek's ripping electric guitar, are absolutely at the top of their game.
Anyone familiar with the show knows how powerful and beautiful this music is, and not getting this 2 CD Set, with extensive liner notes, would be an act of self deprivation on the border of insanity.
Free Music Review: Epic and elcectic Hit: 5 Stars
This was and simply remains some of my favorite music, (soundtrack or otherwise), period. I've purchased all four seasons, as well as the miniseries soundtracks. The music for BSG took a BIG step up when Bear Mcreary came in and did the music for the series Season 1 - Season 4.5. The music gave extra punch to the emotions one experienced while watching this absolutely wonderful series. Some have compared it to John Williams, etc. I think that that type of comparison is unfair. Williams' scores were almost exclusively orchestral in their composition and presentation. Bear's work crosses a wide range of types of music; techno, tribal, etc. I won't try to tell you how the music will make you feel, but for me, I relive those wonderful scenes and moments from this groundbreaking series in my minds eye. These soundtracks are as haunting and memorable as the series they accompanied.
Free Music Review: Bear McCreary is a genius! Hit: 5 Stars
If you loved watching Battlestar Galactica, you might have noticed that the music made the show. More than background, the soundtrack is really part of the story. For those that haven't seen the show, the music is still amazing to listen to. It provokes emotions that you didn't know you had.
my only complaint is that some version of "Wander My Friends" is on every season soundtrack and it's on this one TWICE! It's an ok song, but it's not THAT good. And after hearing it so many times while listening to the soundtracks, I've come to hate the song and skip it everytime it's on. Bear McCreary has created so many amazing songs so much more deserving of being repeated on the albums. Fortunately, these albums have at least 20 songs each, so you don't feel like you're losing anything by having them on there.
Free Music Review: A Masterpiece to Rival Anything Hit: 5 Stars
10 seconds into listening to this soundtrack for the first time (Gaeta's Lament) and I knew that I would be blown away even after loving all previous BSG soundtracks. I think without the score that had accompanied the TV series the show could not have been as epic as it was, and this album is definitely an epic score. I am pretty picky when it comes to music and I have never heard another composer use the drums more effectively than Bear has in his scores for BSG. What makes soundtracks so appealing to me is there ability to draw out the emotions that the characters were feeling and impress them upon you. This album does that greatly. With over 2hours of content here, there is no doubt that this is a must have for any soundtrack fan.
Free Music Review: What a finale!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I've collected (and reviewed) every Battlestar Galactica soundtrack released so far and this one ends the cycle on a super high note!
Bear McCreary and his wonderful crew have done it again! There is nothing more to say that has not been said by everyone else here.
But there is one thing. Thank you Bear for composing such rich and rewarding music for us to share and dream by. The music for Roslin and Adama means so very much to me. Especially as my wife has been through a cancer battle of late. This music in its various forms has brought comfort to me personally as I focused on my wife's journey and victory! Your music has been there with us all along!
Bless you Mr. McCreary. And thank you so much!
