Free Music Review: An excellent bookend to the BSG quartet
Hit: 5 Stars

Anyone who has seen BSG knows how excellent the music is, and McCreary does a fantastic job of fleshing out the musical cues even further in this soundtrack. "Assault on the Colony" is the fast paced epic of the 2-cd set, as every season has one.

My only tiny, teeny tiny complaint is that I sort of wish we could have gotten the rawer, more emotive Gaeta's Lament from the show rather than the spit polished studio version. It's still excellent, and powerful, but it was the raw performance that first drew me in. He really gets a chance to show off his beautiful voice in this version though, and it's quite excellent.

This is a fantastic end to a fantastic series of music.

Free Music Review: Simply just amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

Just "An Easterly View" alone makes this soundtrack worth buying, and there are so many more memorable pieces in it! But yeah, An Easterly View is the one that sticks out the most for me, especially the last couple minutes of it. The combination of this powerful piece and the ending scene of the final episode of BSG, where Bill Adama is sitting on that hill looking at the sun as the camera rises and the scene ends ... well, that combination darn near made me cry, and that's not an easy feat! As someone else here said, as brilliant as BSG was as a show, without this score it wouldn't have been anywhere near as great. Five stars from me, and I'd give it six if I could.

Free Music Review: So good that I had to leave a review.

Perhaps it's a little premature to call this Bear McCreary's crowning achievement in his young career, but I am hard-pressed to think of any album that blew me away like this. If anything, it's definitely the jewel in the Battlestar soundtrack series. The orchestration and arrangement is so rich that I keep discovering new things. The main themes from before are repeated in tracks such as "Farewell Apollo" and "Roslin and Adama Reunited," but were added with layers of sophistication this time around. Bear's masterful use of Eastern instruments makes this album stand out like none other.

If you are tired of the same old orchestra soundtracks, then this is for you.

Free Music Review: It brings back memories!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this entire set just to get "So Much Life" from the series finale. It was well worth the cost, and of course I've found other great tracks by listening to both CDs. Every track has a style that I can only associate with BSG, even if I can't remember hearing it in the show. I was very glad to see the entire second disc dedicated to the last episode. While every season had insanely dramatic moments, the series finale was really an overload of emotions and the soundtrack reflects that completely. I am completely addicted to listening to these songs, and now I want to buy all of the other seasons' soundtracks!

Free Music Review: Essential listening
Hit: 5 Stars

With Season Four of his music for Battlestar Galactica, Bear McCreary has created the finest sustained soundtrack of our time, exceeding even Howard Shore's masterwork for "Lord of the Rings" and easily leaving behind John Williams's uneven output for the "Star Wars" films. Themes that were introduced over the seasons are brought back and explored as their associated characters evolve; new themes perfectly reflect new challenges. I can't imagine BSG without this music. This soundtrack is the culmination of many years of brilliant work, and I can't wait to hear what Bear takes on next.
