Free Music Notes for Check Your HeadFree Music Review: Finger Lickin' Goooooood! Hit: 5 StarsThis is hip-hop to me. A rash mixture of a myriad of styles, thrown willy-nilly into a pot, and covered with lyrics that may or may not speak of social ills, but definitely SPEAK!The straight up hip-hop songs are just so epic! 'Pass the Mic', 'So What'cha Want', 'Jimmy James' are just huge and awe-inspiring. The punk songs (like 'Time for Livin'' and 'Gratitude') are so simple and straightforward and hard and edgy and righteous. They form a perfect compliment to the hip-hop fare, which are complex and multi-layerd collages. In the middle somewhere lay the funk-groove tunes ('Groove Holmes', 'The Maestro') . Sometimes, these are my favourite points of the album. So tasty-sweet, they remind of what the Meters would sound like if they owned turntables. A really good album for me must touch a lot of points. This one surely does, and does it well.
Free Music Review: Check your Head -- EXTREMELY HABIT FORMING! Hit: 5 StarsCheck your Head is the greatest album ever. Period. The Beastie Boys, in this package, give the world 21 (a lot for your $$) tracks, including such highlights as the hilarious Professor Booty, the booming So Whatcha Want, and the flowing Jimmy James. If you buy one Beastie Boys album in your life, buy this one. It's worth it. This album comes at a time when the Beastie Boys decided to drop the Gangster Rap thing, and go with a more positive and intellectual message. It contains hardcore tracks from days of old, and hip hop that will blow your head off. BUY BUY BUY! Sell your kidneys to buy this album! It's a fair trade!
Free Music Review: Funk-Rock-mix perfection Hit: 5 StarsA great cd to buy for new bestie boys listeners would be this disk showcasing all there many talents with rock, funk rap and technology in a fusion of cool music. Lots of great songs on this disk and along with Paul's boutique the 2 must haves for ANY beastie Boy Fan.
Free Music Review: I just keep finding something better! Hit: 5 StarsThe last Beastie album I got was Ill Communication, which I previously thought would be a better choice than Check Your Head. And, well, you could say I was disappointed with it.CYH has become a close tie for my favorite Beastie album with Paul's Boutique. Very close. I think it's because I enjoy rock besides hip hop, and this is more a hardcore/hip hop fusion than the purely sampled Paul's Boutique. So there you have it, this is the best Beastie Boys album I've heard, alongside Paul's Boutique. If you've never listened to them, buy both CYH and PB. Expand from there if you get addicted =) Also, I noticed the anthology takes 7/20 songs from this CD, so I believe CYH was their personal favorite as well...
