Free Music Review: The weakest Beastie Boys CD
Hit: 3 Stars

Definitely not their best. The first 7 tracks are pretty good, but it flounders for the rest of the way. The jams are a bit uninspired and don't have the character of their instrumentals on Ill Communication...they all sound the same. The Maestro is not very good either, one of my least favorite beastie boys songs.

Free Music Review: One of the Beastie Boys' best
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite Beastie Boys CDs. It has good songs and instrumentals. If you're a fan buy this, Hello Nasty, Ill Communication and the Criterion Collection Beastie Boys DVD Video Anthology.

Free Music Review: Ecclectic Genius
Hit: 5 Stars

Check your Head has to be my favorite Beastie Boy album of all time. In this album, the beastie boys blur the lines between hip-hop, jazz, funk, and rock. All this genre-switching upsets alot of people because their too stupid too realize that the Beastie Boys are far too ecclectic and well versed in music to just stick in one category. What i love about the album is that it's a completely untraditional hip hop album. Since when have you seen people rap and play their own instruments? This album is just another display of their excellent skills as artists. Some favorite songs of mine, are "Pass the Mic" ,"Professor Booty", and "Somethings got to Give".

If you've ever heard of the Bad Brains (a black punk rock group) the Beastie Boys give a nod to them and their own punk rock background by sampling the guitar riff in "pass the Mic".

Other than that, it's a great album in it's own right, and a must if you ever consider getting into the Beastie Boys.

Free Music Review: great mixture
Hit: 4 Stars

Check your head really continues on the beastie boys quest of mixing different styles of music like rap, jazz, and punk. The album is a good mixture of songs like So Watha'want to namaste.

Free Music Review: Avant-Garde Jazz Alternative Rock Hip-Hop Rap at its best
Hit: 5 Stars

After being a fan of the Beastie Boys' hits like "Intergalactic", "Sabotage", and "Fight For Your Right", I decided to pick this album up, simply for the the first three songs on it (Jimmy James, Funky Boss, and Pass the Mic). What I got though was much more and ultimately much more rewarding. A bizarre live intro ("This next one... is... the first song... on our new album"), a nice drum beat gets the album off to a good start. "Funky Boss", when I first heard it, was one of the funniest songs I had ever heard. "Pass the Mic", "Finger Lickin' Good", and "So What'cha Want" are Beastie classics by and standard. This album also has some amazing jazzy interludes, like "Lighten Up", "Pow", "Groove Holmes", and "In 3's", which don't sound like the group at all, but are still outstanding. The only gripe I had with the album was that there were too many weird 50 second collages and not enough actual rap songs. But if you listen to the album all the way through, that fact can be easily overlooked, as it has a great flow from one song to the next.

Buy this album. No really, go now and buy it.
