Free Music Notes for Licensed to IllFree Music Review: Still fresh to this date. Hit: 5 Stars"License to Ill" might be closing in on being a 20 year old album, but it still kicks [...]. All 13 tracks on this CD are awesome. Many people will know "Fight for your right", "Brass Monkey", and "Slow and Low" from radio play on popular alternative, retro, hip hop and college stations, but there are many other great songs on the CD as well. "Paul Revere" tells a story in a smooth rap, "She's Crafty" is a rocking rap number, and "Girls" is just plain silly. The guys were fresh and innovative in the 80's, and now in 2004, the album still sounds as good. Pick it up today to add to your retro collection!
Free Music Review: An album seems to get better the more you listen to it Hit: 5 StarsI bought it last week, and I listened to it the first time. I wasn't too happy with my purchase, since, I only liked two songs on it, well, the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. Now I can't get enough of it! I think they did an awesome job their debut album. It is one of the best albums I have ever purchased! I am so happy that I decided to buy it. I have heard on the radio many of their hits, and all of them are amazing! I can't stop listening to it, or singing the words at school! I wish I could just convince my friends that this album is worth buying, and going to be played so much it will be worn out.
Free Music Review: Timeless Hit: 5 StarsWhether you're listening to this CD in year 1986, 2004, or 2104, this CD is always extremely enjoyable. This album, along with "Raising Hell" are the albums that literally made hip-hop what it is today. Three MCs - Adrock, MCA, and Mike D were just there to have fun and make great music while doing so, exchanging hilarious and sometimes ridiculous rhymes between the three of them. Rick Rubin, the genius producer behind the album, used a variety of samples, along with some blaring guitar riffs to make songs such as the classic, "Fight For Your Right (To Party)" which has held up very well over time.
The Beasties drop some great storytelling rhymes on "She's Crafty" and "Paul Revere" and some ridiculous and funny rhymes on "Girls" and "Brass Monkey." Forty-four and a half minutes of timeless rhymes. This should be in any rap/hip-hop fan's collection, and anyone who enjoyed this should check out any of the other Beastie Boys albums. It was "The New Style" back in '86, and it still has style in 2004.
Free Music Review: Great debut Hit: 5 Stars
The Beastie Boys made their first mark on the world with this album and it was a good one too. Possibly their best album, the Beastie Boys combine rock with rap and do a good job of it. The opening track, "Rhymin' and Stealin'" was more of a rap song but later tracks such as "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and "Fight For Your Right" had a rock background but the boys were rapping to it, creating an awesome fusion. While some of the songs are short, this is still a classic album that anyone can enjoy. If you haven't bought it yet, you've had 18 years to do so so go out and buy the damn thing!!!
Free Music Review: A classic, YES! Hit: 5 StarsLike a fine wine that gets better with age. Never been another album like it and will remain legendary. Don't be surprised to find it in the Smithsonian Institute someday.
