Free Music Notes for Tanto TempoFree Music Review: The sexiest album in modern recording! Hit: 5 Stars
Not since Barry White's early grooves or the sensual crooning of Marvin Gay has there been such a delightful, soulful and sexy artist like Bebel Gilberto. As the daughter of Joao & Astrud Gilberto, she has beautifully carried on the tradition of lush, mystical Brazilian bossa-nova at its most subtle and sublime. As whimsical and sensual as her mother, Bebel's Portuguese-tinged English vocals and straight "Brasileiro" songs need no translation, and the smoothly shuffling Bossa Nova goes straight to your hips and toes. It's like a trip straight down to Rio or Sao Paulo. The fact that this reviewer speaks Brazilian Portuguese makes it even sweeter and more sultry. Bebel IS the real girl from Ipanema. Wonderful, soulful, sexy and jazzy. Bossa Nova for this generation! FANTASTIC!...and on the Verve label, yet (for you jazz fans).
Free Music Review: Latin alternative Hit: 5 Stars
Normally I listen to a CD several times before I try to 'rate' it; I have only listened to 'Tanto Tempo' 3 times but I just had to get my two cents' worth in. I have what I would consider a pretty good CD collection of female-vocal driven music, but Bebel Gilberto has just about the most gorgeous voice - you can sit there for hours listening to it over and over and not tire of it. It's not just her vocal range and clarity, either, but there is such an addictive quality about the way she delivers the voice inflections and pronunciations of the Portuguese lyrics that almost transform her voice into an instrument in itself. The rhythms are midtempo, light and breezy and make you wish you were right there in Rio. This may sound corny - I also listen to Metallica - but this music just puts me in a damn good mood!
Free Music Review: Can't get enough....... Hit: 5 Stars
.....of this fabulous singer. Right now, there are several beautiful Brazilian girls who make beautiful music, and Bebel heads the list. CeU is a comparitive [though fabulous] rookie, and the wonderful Ana Caram has the mixed fortune to record for a boutique label, whose product is hard to find.
This is an absolutely wonderful recording...seductive, alive, enchanting, addicting. The songs are Latin jazz, and won't be familiar to most American listeners, even the ones in English [Bebel's English is pretty good]. Who Cares...this record is about feelings that know no language.
Do not fail to grab this...one hearing, and you're hooked. Then, you'll want Bebel's other records; that's OK, because they're great, too. Go ahead, be seduced; you'll enjoy it. Promise.
Free Music Review: Classic samba and bossa, yet contains some secrets Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't quite know what to expect from the daughter of one of Brazil's master musicians. Well, turns out the apple didn't fall far from the tree here. At first brush, it's the sensual, familiar rhythms you come to expect from samba, but there are subtle sound treatments and unusual little twists at every bend, thanks to the collaboration of a bunch of other great Brazilian contemporary musicians. If you're familiar with Brazilian music, you'll inevitably begin to hear different interpretations of classic songs. The amazing thing is how each of these great musicians make these classics entirely their own. Bebel does the same here with "Samba e amor". This CD works great as background or mood music, but you can also sit down and enjoy all the intricacies it has to offer.
Free Music Review: I Love It Hit: 5 Stars
I know little about Brazilian music, Bossa Nova or Latin music in general, but I really like this. This is the most beautiful non English speaking music I have ever heard. The perfect intro to contemporary Brazillian tunes. Bebel is relaxed jazz stuff with upbeat sounds, different from the everyday music you normally hear. I just finished reading a few of the negative reviews and I just don't understand them. This CD is one of the few that I own where all the songs are really great. This album brings together so many different musical styles, but it doesn't feel contrived or over produced. The elements and songs flow so smoothly, effortlessly. "August Day Song" is a sexy, song with deep Afro-Cuban beats and sounds like a hot summers day. My favorite CD at the moment.
