Free Music Review: Perfect background
Hit: 5 Stars

I agree with what many previous writers have alluded to: put on Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo" as the background at any gathering and - before the CD is through - everyone will have asked you what you're playing. The music is infectious and Bebel's voice is lilting, silky and sensuous, a feeling that comes across in either Portuguese or English (the sounds are a mixture of each - sometimes dividing choruses between the two like in the wonderful "August Day Song"). In fact, you'll probably get hooked by the most approachable songs, like the English language "So Nice (Summer Samba)" but then learn to love the Portuguese-penned tunes as well.

Free Music Review: An Excellent CD
Hit: 5 Stars

The long awaited "debut" album of Bebel Gilberto doesn't disappoint. Sixdegrees Records has yet another star. Tanto Tempo is amazing, everything you would expect from Bebel Gilberto given her various special appearances (Next Stop Wonderland, Red Hot + Rio) and musical background. This style is similar to the NSW... but arguably better. A few notables include a duet with Nina Miranda of Smoke City (2) along with tracks produced by the late Suba. A smooth, sensual, easy CD perfect for any occasion, fusing acid jazz, bossa nova, samba and R&B. Excellent sound quality, excellent accompaniment, a magnificent voice. Highly recommended CD.

Hit: 5 Stars

Dear Bebel, please continue your wonderful work. This album is a delight - it is very intimate and is something I listen to with great pleasure. I feel as if you are a close friend singing songs to me for all moods and emotional situations. The August Day duet with Nina Miranda is a delight it is so cheerful. Although I don't understand the language, I feel the spirit of Sem Contencao - upbeat. I ADORE So Nice - a novel approach to a song many have recorded. You're obviously charting your own course, and with creativity - you draw me back to Brazilian music which so often tunes in to emotions and celebrates the spirit. Every piece is lovely!

Free Music Review: So beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

I know nothing about Brazilian music, Bossa Nova or Latin music in general. I first was introduced to the magnificent Bebel Gilberto at a benefit for Tibet House. Her power and supreme gifts just blew me away and I actually considered the whole thing a religious experience.

This music has become the music my partner and I live on and thrive off of....Many a candlelit dinner for two has been spent with her two albums in the CD player!

I can't tell you how much I recommend this album. I can't do it much justice with my own review but I will give it a full endorsement. At least listen to excerpts and decide for yourself!

Free Music Review: Bought on a whim...
Hit: 5 Stars

I picked this cd up on a whim when it first came out and I am so, so happy I did. Bebel's voice is terrific on this album. The arrangements are done quite artfully, while remaining simple enough to showcase her talent. It's rare to hear an album that immediately feels like it has been part of your life for years, but this one has this effect. Half of the time I don't know what she's saying (I don't speak Portuguese)...and that's one of the album's most delightful elements. It's a vacation in a box. You can take off your shoes, relax and feel like you're transported. Every once in a while you strike gold. This is definitely one of those cases.
