Free Music Review: A Vacation in your living room
Hit: 5 Stars

Imagine a garden party in the middle of an august night with lanterns everywhere and the skies filled with stars imagine a hammock by the side of the beach with palm trees and clearest blue skies...that is how Bebel Gilberto's music will make you feel...sensual..warm..clearly a celebration of all good things in life...my first foray into Brazillian pop/bossa nova as a Indie Rock fan and I am not dissapointed. All the tracks flow nicely in this album but my favourites are Samba De Bencao (very old worldly tune), AUgust Day ( nice english/portugese interplay) and Lonely( with Thievery Corporation..very sensual).. take my word for it...buy it!:)

Free Music Review: Smooth, Sexy Bebel
Hit: 5 Stars

As we all know, Bebel Gilberto is the daughter of the legendary bossa nova king, Joćo Gilberto, and her lineage has held her in good stead on this smooth, sexy CD. On each track, Bebel offers her own brand of the Brazilian sound sung with a deep, resonate, and sensuous style. Her back-up musicians keep things cool and muy suave. But this collection is not merely a repetition of one, dreamy song: sometimes Bebel and her band bring the tempo up with infectuous horns and lively percussions. This is a perfect soundtrack to a summer party or a quiet evening with that someone special. I am delighted that I bought Bebel's music.

Free Music Review: new, and yet authentic
Hit: 5 Stars

To the reviewer who complained that Bebel's voice is not quite in tune, he/she should be reminded that this is Bossa Nova, it's quite natural -- "Se voce diser que eu desafino amor, saiba que isto e Bossa Nova e isso é muito natural."

I think this CD is fantastic! Bebel manages to make all the songs sound new and fresh without sacrificing authenticity. It is true that many new, non-Brazilian, influences can be heard in her music, but make no mistake, this is still Bossa Nova and it is just as good as it was 40 years ago when her father and Tom Jobim started it all.

Free Music Review: The cure for what ails you
Hit: 5 Stars

Ever have one of those days? Or weeks? It's you alone against the world... Life isn't fair... etc. etc. Well, take a listen to Tanto Tempo and you'll find yourself in a better place.

My favorites are "Close your Eyes" and "Bananeira." Gilberto's voice soothes and uplifts. She makes it all better. Even her sadder tunes (like "Lonely") can help. When her voice turns sorrowful, you remember that everybody hurts.

Speaking of Gilberto's voice... It's like standing beneath a gentle, cool waterfall on a hot and insufferably sticky day. Pure refreshment.

Free Music Review: Poppa's got a brand new bag
Hit: 5 Stars

What a low-key, smart, tasteful update on the bossa nova sound that Bebel's dad created--something between homage and innovation, this CD extends the genre in tactful and interesting ways. Joao is there in sound and spirit, particularly in his famous restraint of phrasing, but Bebel also weaves in sampling, synthesizer, and other contemporary techniques. And when she sings in English we get to smile at the same heavy Rio accent that made us smile when Joao played to the New Yorkers of the 1960's--nearly unintelligible as English, but intimate and charming just the same.
