Free Music Notes for OneFree Music Review: Bee Gees- ONE........Straight From The Heart. Hit: 5 Stars
The Bee Gees are truly one of the greatest "love-song" writers especially of all time ever. This is by far my BEST loved Bee Gees album for all time.I can't get enough....The songs are so hot and emotional...they are great at what they do.This album is too good to be true. For an 80's album it's incredible. Stand out tracks for me would be,"one","ordinary lives","wish u were here","house of shame" and the extra track"wing and a prayer".Probably my BEST one is "wish you were here".This song always zapps me cos,it sounds so intimate and romantic. It's got alot of personal attached feelings obliquely relating to my own life.....The words go "Your living your life in somebody else's heart, when love is as strong as oceans are far apart....how I wish U were here...drying these tears I cry...." This is truly a magnificent song.I love the keyboards...just soothing and comforting to a broken or aching heart. You'll love this one. Next I loved "house of shame".Aww...the starting part is spectacular and attractive.Again beautiful keyboards!I makes my very soul soar into the sky....beautifully done.Again the lyrics come straight from the heart as the previous track. It's incredible how they match their music to suit the mood of the song. Most artists are not having that point in mind...especially the modern ones.Shame on bands like Backstreet boys and all the others. They are totally crap!!!Bee Gees are the GREATEST!!!If only today's artists would sit up and listen to such legends.....they would gain something.I feel Bee Gees music appeals greatly to all age groups even the very elderly. They sing terrific dance numbers too,but the songs are very tolerable. Some artists are too noisy and bombastic.... The other songs are strong supporting tracks to go with.Another track worth mentioning is "bodyguard" and also"it's my neighbourhood"These are also highly appreciable, making this album an even more solid purchase. The track "will you ever let me" boasts some loud thumpy drum programming and sophisticated music overall.I love this too.Complicated but well-done!!The last track "wing and a prayer" is a beautiful love track to close the CD album."Lover's in ancient times,Caught in the fire where only the strong survive....." stunningly superb lyrics.I loved this full album so much,I play it almost everyday.I recommend this album, especially to those who have great love-lives and also the heart-broken.Peace of mind is sure to be on the way with the Bee Gees. They dedicated this album to their brother Andy.As usual all songs are written and produced by them and co-produced by Brian Tench.Music is superb!Believe me,I've experienced nothing like it.They are at their best here. So,buy this album soon,I'm sure u would not regret it.
Free Music Review: The Art Of Pop Tunesmithing Plus Three Hit: 5 Stars
Considering this was the follow up to the comeback album E.S.P. there was a lot riding on it. Because of his unfortunate passing Andy could not join his brothers for the Bee Gee's Quartet album that this was meant to be in the beginning. However that doesn't mean this album is at all without it's merrits. Going for a well conseived and produced 80's contemporary dance-pop sound with some adult contemporary values the presense of funk trained musicians such as Steve Ferone and Nathan East,as ubiquitous as they both were during the 80's as session musicians was important to the fact that the Bee Gee's kept at least one element left intact from their all too often maligned late 70's music: that strong R&B flavor. The title song gets things rolling off to a could start with a slick variation on the late 80's Brit funk-pop sound and was just the right kind of music to go with their excellent melodies and songwriting. "Ordinary Lives","It's My Neighborhood" and "House Of Shame" look to similar musical values while rocking out a bit here and there for extra flavor. "Bodyguard" is a really nice 80's type R&B ballad with a bit too dark and surreal a flavor to qualify as quiet storm:really more in the more conventional late night adult contemporary genre I suppose. Considering all the Asian pop influences floating around at this time their presense in the aloof "Tokyo Nights" is not the least bit surprising. "Tears","Flesh And Blood" and the tribute "Wish You Were Here" are the slower tunes here-perfect for radio and certainly well crafted but not quite to the same level as they seem to get when they pick the tempo up here. Some may disagree and, because everything on this album is so strong it's hard to say but the style of the faster stuff has so much more to it that it stands out to me. "Will You Ever Let Me" is a great example,a chunky 80's blue eyed funk number that is an excellent, solid direction for an uptempo Bee Gee's tune for this era. There is a bonus cut called "You Win Again" which turns out to be a show stopping update of the brother's pre-Main Course sound and proves that all of the musical periods they've had still survice well within them. For it's era this is a surprisingly strong and well rounded comeback album and is highly recommended to not only Bee Gee's fans but anyone with an ear for high quality 80's pop music of any sort.
Free Music Review: Great collection of sad love songs. Hit: 5 Stars
Well now I have only the Living Eyes cd to get from the Bee Gees, the hardest one to find. I bought this cd online as it was hard to find in stores, and idiotically didn't pay attention and got the one with the bonus track You Win Again, instead of the import, Wing And A Prayer. Although that song is one of their best, I have it on E-S-P, and feel stupid. So be careful. But ANYWAY, the rest of the album is great, although almost every song is a sad song. Probably because their younger brother Andy passed away right before the making of it. From all the hundreds of released and unreleased bootleg versions of Bee Gees songs I know, Ordinary Lives is my favorite. I first heard it on the One For All Tour concert on VHS, and loved it instantly. It's quite a simple song, but it's incredible. I also love Bodyguard, an incredible and memorably sad song. The other standout song for me is Wish You Were Here, the song I think was made in memory of Andy. Tokyo Nights is quite different, but also lovely. It's My Neighborhood sounds like an attempt of late 80's pop/ rap music or something, but is also pretty good. I also love Maurice's House Of Shame. The U.S. single One sounds great recorded live, but is somewhat not as good in the studio version. Tears is another outstanding, yet very sad, beautiful ballad. I love the end of the chorus in it. Will You Ever Let Me is probably the only "boring" song on here, and definitely most different. 5 star album. And following it, was an even better one, High Civilisation.
Free Music Review: Best Bee Gees album of the 80's Hit: 5 Stars
In March of 1988, the Bee Gees lost a part of themselves in the death of their little brother, Andy. Heartbroken by his passing and craving success that was refused from them in 1987's, "ESP", the Bee Gees threw themselves into their work. Out of what was considered one of the darkest and most emotional periods that the brothers had ever experienced, came some of the most heartfelt and emotional music that the trio has ever released. Never had the Bee Gees' music been so deeply felt by the fans and the public in general. A maturity out of grievance appeared for the first time with the album, "One", and the longing for Andy to still be alive is apparent in songs like, "Tears" and "Wish You Were Here". Not only does this album showcase some of the best music written by the brothers, and some of the finest vocal performances, it contains the title track, "One", which propelled the Bee Gees onto the charts in America for the first time in almost ten years. The brothers' determination paid off when "One" became their first top ten hit in America since 1979. Despite this achievement, American Radio would soon forget the Bee Gees again until 1997. "One" is my favorite Bee Gees album from the 80's, and one of my favorites of all time. A lot of heartbreak and emotion went into this album, and the outcome is incredible. Fantastic effort from Barry, Maurice and Robin!!
Free Music Review: My All-Time Favorite Album! Hit: 5 Stars
I got into the BeeGees thanks to the song "Happy Ever After" included in the High Civilization CD, being born in the 70's I knew about the existence of the BeeGees, I am not a big fan of their disco era productions and I did not know they were making records 10 years before I was born, one day I was browsing at a local flea market in Monterrey, Mexico and came across a worn-out copy of their album ONE and decided to spend the equivalent of 5¢ to give it a try.... After I listened to it, it became one of my most prized posessions! I was completely blown away by the song "Wish You Were Here" but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find the CD anywhere, finally, after 7 years, I have the CD... I don't have to tell you I became a big fan of the group and started buying all of their records. Even if you are not a fan YOU SHOULD OWN THIS ALBUM! P.S. I returned to the same flea market and found a mint condition copy of the album "Living Eyes" in cassette, imported from Korea with the insert intact, all written in Korean. That's my second prize posession... :-)
