Free Music Review: Best Corea album in a long, long time
Hit: 5 Stars

Not since his first "Akoustic Band" have I enjoyed a Chick Corea album more than this duet featuring him and Bela Fleck. Indeed, ever since the days of his Return to Forever album "Romantic Warrior," which was released back in the late 70s, I have approached most Corea albums with a sense of trepidation -- I know I'll like a couple of pieces but the majority will just be too wierd or too plodding for me to make it worth buying the whole disk. Thus, it was with great surprise that I found myself enjoying all the tunes on this CD, which is a true collaboration between two great artists. I particularly like "Children's Song #6," although Corea fans will recognize it as an almost note-for-note cover of "Song to the Pharoh Kings" from Chick Coreas's best RTF outing, "Where Have I Known You Before." Didn't matter to me, though, as it is also one of the CD's best moments. I wish the two would have covered Corea's "Spain," as Fleck did a wonderful job on that piece with his early "Crossroads" album from his pre-Flectone days. But the songs, with few exception, are great and I have no trouble listening to the CD's entire 53 minutes.

If you are like me and have been turned off by some of Corea's more outlandish or experimental works of the past two decades, don't fret buying this one. Having listened to Corea since the mid-70s, I can honestly say that "The Enchantment" is exactly what its title claims--an enchanting work that counts among some of Corea's (and Fleck's) best. MBK

Free Music Review: One of the best CD purchases I have ever made
Hit: 5 Stars

I do not just say this due to the expected technical mastery and good composition, but because this is a very tasteful and listenable album. I am at a point in my listening and work as a hobbyist composer/songwriter where it is important to me to create works that one can listen to in various situations.

I just had a somewhat stressful day and after coming home looking through my CD's I decided to put this one on. It has the desired effect of personal focus and it is just really good music. I have also played this CD at dinner parties, in the car, etc. It works well in all situations yet can be listened to in great detail with all of the expected interest generated.

I have not commented on a product in sometime. Thanks guys, I know for the two of you this was probably just 3-5 days of collaboration but you hit the sweet spot.

Free Music Review: Two Giants Become One
Hit: 5 Stars

I was fortunate to watch these 2 virtuosos perform live at the Keswick Theatre in suburban Philadelphia to a sold-out crowd. To invite the audience into their performance, they kept the house lights on, and performed in their newly established duo, sharing with the audience their immediate rapport via emailing tunes to one another.

A preeminent pianist who appeared with Miles Davis, Anthony Armando "Chick" Corea was born in Massachusetts in 1941 while Bela Fleck, named after Bartok, was born in 1958 in New York City. The haunting banjo strumming and fingerpicking enriched Chick's phenomenal acoustic keyboard virtuoso, which are revealed on the CD.

It's always good to see musicians who continue to evolve through the universal language of music.

Free Music Review: Pure Magic!
Hit: 5 Stars

Who would have thought that piano and banjo could co-exist, let alone enchant and surprise? When you pair up two masters of each instrument (and master composers/arrangers as well) you get magic. I was truly enchanted by the melody and whimsy of this collaboration. Chick and Bela interact and co-create with such playfulness that one cannot help but be infected and moved by their insouciance. I highly recommend you add this album to your collection and play it often... new worlds await!

Free Music Review: Hey, you got chocolate on my peanut butter
Hit: 5 Stars

Quick, think of two things you never thought would go together and when somehow the were joined up ... what a great surprise. This is just one terrific surprise of a combination. Corea and Fleck do things together that delight the ear and keep your head nodding. Buy it, play it on sunny Sunday's in the Fall while reading the Times, while you're cooking on Saturday afternoon, when you are driving or when you can just sit down and really listen. Fun, sophisticated and an enchantment.
