Free Music Review: Fleck & Co. have done it again!
Hit: 5 Stars

I always find BF & the Flecktone's CDs a challenging listening experience and this CD is no different. Hands down, this is one of the most creative and inventive bands playing today. Still as uncategorizable as ever, the guys' mix of bluegrass/jazz/funk/pop continues to amaze. The many guest artists on this new one only add to the creative spice and while it is true that they REALLY shine as a live act, the fact that they make the complicated music they are playing sound so simple makes this CD even more fun to listen to. Standouts: Copland's "Hoe Down", "Zona Mona", "Hall of Mirrors". Pick this up. You know you want to. :-)

Free Music Review: Incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

The Flecktones have outdone themselves this time. Outbounds is a wonderfully unique blend of jazzy, rocking, complex and soothing music. The guest musicians (Jon Anderson, John Medeski and Shawn Colvin to mention a few) are a great addition to expand the already satisfying Flecktones' soundscape to something even more fantastic. I also think it's great they decided to keep Jeff Coffin, a wind instrumentalist since the previous album Left Of Cool, as a full-time member, because I think he has become a nearly indispensable Flecktone.

I hope this becomes the commercial success Béla & Co. certainly deserve.

Free Music Review: excellent cd
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this album through jon anderson's site thinking it was like Vangelis where he did the singing and Vangelis played the music. I'm still trying to figure out where he is in this one I really didn't hear him on either of the two songs he was supposed to be on. I guess he just walked across the stage and out the door. The more I listened to this cd the more it grew on me and now I'm looking up other material by Bela. I like his bango picking and style of music and can see why jon recommends him. Definitely a keeper and I would definitely recommend this cd.

Free Music Review: The transition continues
Hit: 5 Stars

The Flecktones have gradually started to change their sound over the last few albums. This disc is no exception. While none of the tracks really remind me of classic Tones tunes, the same tightness, quality and attention to detail the Tones always put into their music is still present. The disc has a fairly wide variety of song styles on it, which certainly isn't a bad thing either. There really aren't any crazy Wooten solos and even Bela's playing seems somewhat restrained, but overall the music is great. Go buy the album now!

Free Music Review: King Crimson Meets Dave Matthews
Hit: 5 Stars

The Flecktones were recommended to me as a Bluegrass band. Maybe that description makes sense with reference to earlier albums (which I have not heard), but not _Outbound_.

The Flecktones of _Outbound_ are an art rock supergroup with banjo-driven crunchy overtones. It's too complex and involved and has too few lyrics to be pop, so I guess maybe you'd call it jazz. Really fast, funky jazz-pop with a banjo thrown in for the fun of it.

And it is really fun.
