Free Music Notes for OutboundFree Music Review: Bela Fleck, incredible the judge Hit: 4 Stars
This album is good. The songs "Hoe Down" and "Earth Jam" are phenomenal. However the rest of the album is not as good. These are two songs from their live album, which shows more upbeatness in their work. Sorry, but to be blunt, I recommend this album as a good album for those two songs, but the rest of the album I don't recommend. Their "Live at the Quick" album seems better. Dylan
Free Music Review: Great new sounds Hit: 4 Stars
The Flecktones consistently please with their signature sound, professional blend, and quality arrangements. I agree with many of the other reviews and add this CD is (thankfully) an evolution of the Flecktone sound. Live Art was incredible (5 stars); Left of Cool took an introspective turn. Outbound goes further with a way-fuller sound and great material. I like the path this band breaking.
Free Music Review: Absolutely worth your time and money! Hit: 4 Stars
I'm a bit of a musical purist, or maybe even a minimalist, if you like. I really enjoy small orchestrations....which makes it easy to pick out the specific instruments. Well, this orchestration is kind of complex....lots of added musicians. Nonetheless, it's good stuff. "Hoedown" and "Scratch and Sniff" are worth the money alone. Buy this CD.
Free Music Review: Grueling banjos world tour Hit: 4 Stars
It's hard not to come away from the journey feeling Fleck would have been better off keeping things a bit more ragged, even if it would have meant risking a misstep from time to time.
Free Music Review: Disappointing... Hit: 3 Stars
Is this album a sell-out? Not quite... but it is easily the "poppiest" sounding Flecktones cd... that's not exactly a bad thing, but when i buy a flecktones CD I expect it to be loaded with fun tunes, and great solos, particularly on bass (victor wooten is incredible), and banjo. The solos are sparse here, and the production is very smooth. There are many guests and the band feeling is kinda lost. That's not to say there aren't some highlights. The opener, "Hoedown" is an incredibly energetic and uplifting rendition of Aaron Copeland's composition. Earth Jam is also strong, and Aimum/A Moment So Close are 2 good pop songs with vocals. However, alot of this CD falls kinda flat and doesn't reach the peaks that previous works such as Live Art do.
