Free Music Notes for If You're Feeling SinisterFree Music Review: Poetry in motion Hit: 5 Stars
Alright, not in motion as a cd is a static object but hey who's counting? This album contains some of my favourite songs of all time. This band practice songwriting like a craft and they are quite the craftsmen! Lyrically amazing the songs strike the balance between being softly spoken and understated while saying things that make you shudder. I've never heard such a gift for lyrical structure and storytelling in a songwriter. Seeing other people is such a wonderful chronicle of the games played in relationships, stars of track and field a heartfelt cry of jealousy and feelings of inadequacy. Lines float out on top of melodies and you wonder how anyone ever managed to fit them so seamlessly into a song? 'She was into s&m and vital studies not everyone's cup of tea'. An album full of beautiful truth pasted over beautiful melodies.
Free Music Review: What the hell does twee mean anyway? Hit: 5 Stars
I guess I lost out on the meaning of the word, and if you know I assume you are better 'versed' than I in pop language. I really don't care though. I love Belle and Sebastian because they are beautiful, creative and perfect for a lady such as I. There are the tunes set on a poppy landscape with melancholy lyrics that make you forget how sad it may be. There are the tunes that make you want to sing aloud and maybe even dance to (if you have that luxury available)--then there are the quiet songs that break your heart and make crying in your car on the way to work okay. Everyone has their own opinions, so I'll ignore the negative reviews, and just love them as they are. There are no bad songs on this album. It is strong from start to finish. Each song is a story that is worth telling and I'm glad that I can have a listen.
Free Music Review: Never tire of this one Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not going to go into details on each song, since other earlier reviews have already done that. Suffice it to say that I will always have a soft spot for certain albums (can't stop calling them that..). This is one of a few that I know I will never tire of. I honestly enjoy every single song and they all seem fresh every time I play them or try to initiate someone else into the cabal. It takes you to a certain place, a time in your life, that's about the best way I can describe it. "Seeing Other People", "Mayfly", "Get me Away from Here..", and the title track stand out above the rest. Yeh, they sound a lot like Simon and Garfunkel, as my wife never fails to point out, but I really don't care. Buy it and treasure it.. I love all their other releases but this one is the most consistent.
Free Music Review: Simple and wonderful Hit: 5 Stars
This just simply a great album to sing along to, it is quiet with just vocals and a backing guitar type of feel. It's great late night study music when you need a pick me up but without being loud. There are very few band that I can bare listening to when I have been awake for 3 days straight through fear of my head splitting open at the hint of a power chord. But this is a band who are great listening to anytime, some of there lyrical undertones are fantastic and you wouldn't expect to find such dark ideas in such bright songs.I have bought all of their albums to date and they are all fantastic but this one and the boy with the arab strap are probably my favorite. If you like "The Violent Femmes" "Cracker" "Donovan" this should appeal to you.
Free Music Review: The best album ever? Hit: 5 Stars
This one definitely ranks among the best albums I've ever heard. Each song is perfect pop, each with its own story to tell. "The Stars of Track and Field" is an epic, shimmery opener, "Seeing Other People," propelled by its rollicking Guaraldi-esque piano riff, shows lead singer Stuart Murdoch's clever lyrical wordplay. The real winners on SINISTER, however, are its middle tracks, "Like Dylan in the Movies," "The Fox in the Snow," and "Get Me Away from Here, I'm Dying." These 3 songs are so beautiful, with great messages to boot. I guess the best advice I can give is to believe the hype and buy the album. Unless your idea of good music is Britney Spears or Limp Bizkit, SINISTER will easily rank among your favorites.
