Free Music Review: belle and sebastian's second album
Hit: 5 Stars

belle and sebastian are a wonder group. in the time of generation x and nuclear war, Stuart Murdoch's gentle voice and the loverly melodies of their songs are fast becoming super-popular all over the world. belle and sebastian continue to be dreamy and youthful. if you're feeling sinister is a wonderful album. Stuart sings sweetly of crushes, girls and death as usual. the band plays on. our daydream continues. those dreamy, those romantic, and those disillusioned themselves should open their minds to these beauties and settle down, on the pillow soft when they've all gone home. forget everything, let that little smile come on your face, try to remember a song after you're done listening to it and feel pleasent. if you're feeling sinister is beautiful.

Free Music Review: Belle and Sebastian's finest work to date.
Hit: 5 Stars

The spotty "Boy with the Arab Strap" was a major letdown mainly because the excellence of this, its predecessor, set such a high standard for this band. If you haven't heard Belle & Sebastian, be warned that if fey, heavily Scottish singing isn't your cup of tea, it'll turn you off the way Morrissey's voice made a lot of people dislike the Smiths even if they enjoyed the music. This album has B&S' most incisive, funny lyrics, pastoral arrangements (the Vince Guaraldi-esque "Seeing Other People" is a particular standout), and sharpest songwriting. The only clunker in the bunch, in my opinion, is the wheezy "The Boy Done Wrong Again." One of the best British indie releases of the past few years.

Free Music Review: A strong sophmore album
Hit: 5 Stars

Because that's what it really is, not a debut. Well, it was a world debut, I guess. Anyway, as I bought B&S's albums totally out of order, this was the last one I bought (I still don't have Storytelling, but I'm planning on buying it soon). I had high, even monumental expectations for it, because everyone has always raved about it, and it does have the reputation for being their best, doesn't it? And...it fell short, initially. I now recognize it's flashy brilliance (well, flashy in comparison to some of their other cds), but at first I was disappointed. I still prefer Tigermilk, but this is a demonstrative and worthy little gem, too. It really grew on me. Second best album I own. (Can anything B&S be truly bad?)

Free Music Review: Beautifully done
Hit: 5 Stars

Many people believe that Belle & Sebastian are pretentious rip-offs of other, better musicians (Velvet Underground, Nick Drake...etc.) but, I believe that this album (along with Tigermilk) truly proves the range and the heart that this band posesses. Although they are obviously influenced by these incredible bands of the past, they are very stylized and original in many cases. The high point of the album (for me) is "Get me away from here I'm dying"...not only is it arranged beautifully, but the lyrics represent the emotions of everyone at one point or another. Overall, this album is well worth your time, and after getting past the obvious overtones of great bands, you learn to accept them as a good band all by themselves.

Free Music Review: Poetic And Adolescent Sensibility
Hit: 5 Stars

Belle & Sebastian didn't have a major lable to announce them to public, their music did not used on movies or Tv's. But some manias and music magazine paid attention to this group producing tasty vocal, harmonic melodies with poetic and adolescent sensibility.
Their music is beased on folk tradition. And especially Chamber Pop Movement charaterizing themselves sensitive and pastoral melody based on variegated composition and arrangement.
Their music is something like... I can compare this feeling with 'flaming sun in a rainy day'. Sad but cheerful, timid but confidential... their music is so conflicting. I feel this is not a music in a land... and always admire their ability of composition.
