Free Music Notes for If You're Feeling SinisterFree Music Review: Poetic And Adolescent Sensibility Hit: 5 Stars
Belle & Sebastian didn't have a major lable to announce them to public, their music did not used on movies or Tv's. But some manias and music magazine paid attention to this group producing tasty vocal, harmonic melodies with poetic and adolescent sensibility. Their music is beased on folk tradition. And especially Chamber Pop Movement charaterizing themselves sensitive and pastoral melody based on variegated composition and arrangement. Their music is something like... I can compare this feeling with 'flaming sun in a rainy day'. Sad but cheerful, timid but confidential... their music is so conflicting. I feel this is not a music in a land... and always admire their ability of composition.
Free Music Review: Koans Hit: 5 Stars
This is my first Belle and Sebastian CD. At first I tried to understand the meaning of the lyrics, only to be confounded. On a rational level some of them make no sense at all. I believe that they are intentionally non-sensical (in a good way). They are like dreams that evoke strong emotions though we cannot figure out the dream. One is tempted to think of these songs as koans, in that they are meant to by-pass the intellect and go to the soul. The CD cover is quite appropriate. A nice-looking woman in a ponderous state has apparently put aside her Kafka book for a moment. And so it is that this CD will stir up emotions (though it is neither morbid nor mellifluous) and thoughts about your life.
Free Music Review: If Your feeling the need for a wonderful CD... Hit: 5 Stars
In the same vein as Nick Drake, early Simon and Garfunkel, The Velvet Underground, and even a bit of The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian appeal to the melodic, yet artistic sensibilities of popular music. The numerous members of B-N-S have made some of the most enjoyable and heart-felt tunes I've heard since the Morrissey and Marr connection. Each of the three or four vocalist adds his or her emotion and personal insight to the lyrics of each song, making them instantly catchy and meaningful. I highly recommend all of their releases, including their 4 import EP's, which are due out as a limited box set in the near future. My CD player is a better place because of them.
Free Music Review: absolutely lovely Hit: 5 Stars
If You're Feeling Sinister is one of the few albums I've heard that is actually perfect. The Boy Done Wrong Again may seem somewhat dull at times, depending on your mood, but it is nevertheless a very pretty, melancholy song and the rest of the CD is just flawless. This was the first B&S I heard, and I was hooked after one listen. I've purchased some of their other work, which is also most excellent, but this album is the one I always go back to. Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying, is just beautiful and one of my all-time favorite songs. If everyone owned a copy of this CD, I think the world would be a much better place. Buy it. It's just so incredibly lovely.
Free Music Review: there are no words for it Hit: 5 Stars
although belle and sebastian have done other good albums as well, this is the band at its peak. this is where they find the balance between the moodiness of "fold your hands..." and the playfulness of "boy with the arab strap". Sombre songs like the excellent "Fox in the snow" along with more upbeat tracks like "stars of track and field", "like dylan in the movies" and "if you're feeling sinister" make this a must-have. Simple, playful melodies and lyrics, sometimes verging on the absurd, that are firmly rooted in real human life, uncensored and omitting the cliches. Today, this is a great album. In say twenty years, it will be considered a classic.
