Free Music Notes for Ben Folds FiveFree Music Review: yeah, these guys are pretty good... Hit: 5 Stars
One of my favorite pop albums of all time, and I enjoy this album even more than their more well-known 1997 album "Whatever & Ever Amen". The songs feel different from each other (the funkadelic edge of "Jackson Cannery" to the classic pop sounds of "Philosophy" and "Uncle Walter"), yet they sound enough the same to know what album you're listening to.
"Underground" and "Video" are also standout tracks on this CD. The former delivers the joys of alternative rock with an upbeat sound, while the latter a slower but very catchy look into the future when "we live in a video".
If you're looking for a sunny pop CD with excellent musicianship, look no further than right here.
Free Music Review: excellent!! Hit: 5 Stars
Besides having such energy and good tunes, it seems like BFF probably had a lot of fun making this album. I cannot compare their music to anyone else, and their lyrics are great. I wish I could have seen them live when they were still together, but I've had to settle for the DVD (although I have seen solo Ben Folds & it's definitely one of the best shows I've seen!!). Sports and Wine and Uncle Walter have humorous lyrics, and Philosophy, Jackson Cannery, Where's Summer B, and the Last Polka are also good songs. BFF is a refreshing change from the music that seems to be on MTV. I'm on the road a lot, and this is one of my favorite CDs to listen to, and the miles go by a lot quicker.
Free Music Review: My Favorite Ben Fold Five Album - Fresh Sounds Hit: 5 Stars
If you aren't familiar with the band they consist of a piano/lead singer (who's name is Ben Folds), a bass, and drums. They have a very unique sound, and they all came out of heavy metal bands (weird, huh). This album gives me the feeling that this is the real, raw Ben Folds. Before the crazy success of "Whatever and Ever Amen" due to the song "Brick". My favorites on this CD are "Jackson Cannery", "Alice Childress", "Underground", and "Boxing". If you bought Whatever and Ever Amen I highly recomend you experience this side of Ben Folds Five, and if you are just looking for a great album with a fresh sound, this is it.
Free Music Review: tickle my ivory Hit: 5 Stars
Well, this is it kids, a trip back in time...before the "Whatever & Ever, Amen" days, there was an album simply called "Ben Folds Five". It was good. Very good. Too bad they wouldnt put "emaline" on it, because it is a terrific song, but despite that omission, it is *Still* a GOOD album. If you like Ben Folds's stuff, you should pick this up. Pick it up if you're not. Buy it. Enjoy it. Love it, it will love you back, i promise. OK, this reviews isn't so good, i know. Maybe its because I had all the songs downloaded before i bought it, and denied myself the glory of enjoying it as a whole, but regardless, It IS A GOOD ALBUM. Buy it, for me & Ben.
Free Music Review: Best album of the '90s Hit: 5 Stars
Can't believe it's been 3 years since I first heard "Jackson Cannery" and was blown away. I still listen to this album frequently. From the opening power piano chords of "Jackson" to the brilliant and poignant ending of "Boxing," there's not klunker in the bunch. Some beautiful tunes, some angry and crude rockers. Shades of Todd Rundgren, Joe Jackson, George Gershwin (!), but very much Ben's own sound. Much stronger than their sophomore effort, "Whatever and ever amen." Can't understand why none of the songs on this album were hits or why it took a strange number like "Brick" to break the group.
