Free Music Notes for LifelineFree Music Review: IF YOU ARE WONDERING IF YOU SHOULD BUY THIS.... Hit: 4 Stars
If you have soul then YES YOU SHOULD BUY THIS ALBUM. When this first came out I wrote a sort of crappy review but after listening for months now I finally get this album and love every bit of it. They won't let me change my star review from four to five but let me tell you it is A FIVE STAR ALBUM. It harkens back to 70's soul music and deserves to be put on the shelf next to all the greats. The sad thing is that Ben Harper has no interest in being on the radio or mtv so there is so many people who just don't know that there is great new music out there and true living legends that are under the age of 55! Just havin fun with that.
The music on this album just flows and seems to have influence coming from everyone from Otis Redding to Marvin Gaye to Wilson Pickett and there's even a song that has a harmonica in it resembling a bit of Neil Young. Its just to me the perfect jam album. Thats all I can really say is that the album just Jams, it moves your spirit and makes you wanna dance. I'm obviously not so good at words so just do yourself a favor and if you're one who cannot remain sitting down whenever you hear Motown Soul or Funk comin out of some speakers then get this album.
Free Music Review: Impressive with understanding Hit: 4 Stars
Ben Harper's new CD is definately not his best, but after you realize that he recorded this CD in such a short amount of time, and had very little editing, you gain a new appreciation for this CD. It is a good CD to just chill to. Maybe play in the background while you and your friends talk in a relaxed atmosphere with an ice cold beer. It is worth buying.
Free Music Review: More Good Retro Style Hit: 4 Stars
If you've been around for a while, these songs sound slightly familiar to 1970's combination of rock, blues, and soul music. But that shouldn't detract you too much from giving this CD a few good listens, before you make up your mind about it's quality. After all, good music is still good music, and sometimes going back in time is a good thing.
Free Music Review: GOOD HARPER Hit: 4 Stars
GOOD CD SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FROM SOME OF THE OTHER BEN HARPER CD'S BUT STILL VERY GOOD. LOTS OF SOUL
Free Music Review: Pretty good Hit: 3 Stars
I wanted to review this at 3 1/2 stars but it didn't work. My favorite songs are Having Wings, Lonesome Train and Younger Than Today. I always like Ben's prettier songs more than the rocking blues songs.
Unfortunately Ben's voice is too loud on the title track Lifeline which drowns out the guitar part. It's also a bit too loud on the first song Fight Outta You. I think he produced it himself which might explain these obvious mistakes.
