Free Music Review: spectacular!
Hit: 5 Stars

Harper is a great departure from all of the bubble-gum pop that's flooded the market the past few years. If you like what you have heard on the radio (probably "Steal My Kisses" from "Burn to Shine"), I think you actually should start with this album. It's got a little of everything that Harper is capable of, including bluesy stuff, regaee-tinged tunes, soft ballads and some good ol' rock-n-roll.

Harper's lyrics actually mean something, and I think that makes the music that much more enjoyable. "Even when I'm on my knees/ I know the devil prays," he wails on "Ground on Down," one of the album's harder cuts. A lot of his songs have similar spiritual, almost religious, passages. He's not afraid to get a little political, either. On "Excuse Me Mr.," he is singing to Corporate America and some of the not-so-great things they do. "In the end, all they'll ask is how much you gave," he tells them.

All in all, if you are a lover of music, Harper's got what you need: great, meaningful lyrics, a beautiful voice and a superb band backing him. And P.S. - speaking from personal experience, he also puts on a helluva live show!

Free Music Review: the movement
Hit: 5 Stars

ben is a huge part of this new positive mind state movement. check out incubus, blind melon, long beach dub all stars, unified theory, bob marley, his son ziggy, phish, the grateful dead, and many others. Smoking Gods' green goodness has opened our eyes to this true life and true universe and we are here to spread our positivity to each and to all. May you be blessed and learn from all you experience in this life and the next. Follow your guiding truth. About ben's albums, he's a lyrical genuis with an incredible mix of will, wit, and wisdom. His live performances are entrancing to say the least. when the band jams for ten of fifteen minutes at a time it captures the essence of what music is and what it can do, yet his acoustic songs are very peaceful and moving to the soul. Ben will get his reward for he follows with a true heart. I pray that you may say someday, "my foolishness can't stay." For that will be a beautiful day. THE STRUGGLE IS A BLESSING.

Free Music Review: Great, Epic Political Statement
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD on a limb, because i love his version of Strawberry Fields Forever on the I Am Sam soundtrack. So i bought this CD b/c i heard it was his best one. And this CD is very good. It is one huge political statement, like a Bob Marley CD... it has alot of quotable and deep, meaningful lyrics. The CD is mainly folk/acoustic, there isnt that much uptempo stuff on it, but the lyrics and musicianship are the high point on this CD. Like Excuse me, Mr... or "God Fearing Man" which goes on for almost 12 minutes, an epic masterpiece. His voice isnt as "strong" per se as i had hoped, but he's still a pretty good vocalist. I would like to see him branch out a little more vocally, but i cant say anything because i havent heard his recent albums. His live album i have heard is also excellent. If you are ready for a new type of music, let it be Ben Harper.

Free Music Review: It feels good to listen to Ben Harper
Hit: 5 Stars

I have no idea what Ben Harper's music is technically "labeled" but it feels like funk, acoustic, chill to me. The lyrics are always an intriguing ride, and I love the longer songs that add a little jam time because the band that backs Harper up is crazy fun to listen to.

As for Ben Harper's voice it soothes all the aches of the day.

Ben Harper never dissappoints. And some goon recently said that Harperr was just there, well I popped into my car and the passenger was nodding and visibly enjoying the tunage, they turned and said "What is this, it feels good." Yeah.

I like Ground on Down, Gold to Me (time to jam) Burn One Day (herbal intentions), Really like the message and the beat to People Lead and of course I Firmly stand behind that you must Fight For Your Mind.

This album is for the little rebel in you.

Free Music Review: Great Lines!
Hit: 5 Stars

" If you don't like my fire than don't come aroun'. Caus' i'm gonna burn one down"The humor brought forth through the lyrics on songs like "Burn One Down" and "Excuse Me Mr." are a ray of hope for rock. When the majority of rock songwrighters can't seem to get away from discussing the same old tired topics of: Love, Sex, and sexual relationships gone wrong. The lyrics are not the only cause for rejoicing. Since contained in this album is inspiring music. Combinations of Folk, Rock, Blues, and Funk are fresh. And the musicianship is top caliber; something that is lacking in most rock music today. The bass playing is a case study itself. It's the simplicity at times that helps propel the music. In conclusion an album that should have been given a greater audience by the powers that be.
