Free Music Notes for Fight for Your MindFree Music Review: You'll just have to hear it. Hit: 5 Stars
Fight For Your Mind is a good example of why review-writing is best reserved for albums somewhere between abhorrent and really, really good. For how can words come close to describing music as fantastic as this? I guess for truly superb albums, reviews can always be respectful but creatively vague. This sounds like everything you love (or didn't know you loved) about American music and the many traditions it stems from, all filtered through a soul--a voice, a musicianship--so brilliant it burned off all but the strongest, purest parts of the music and now has some vehicle of expression worthy of it's sincerity and ferocity. These are songs people will be humming and singing and dreaming 2000 years from now.
Free Music Review: One of the best CDs i've heard. What all music should be! Hit: 5 Stars
I moved into a quad last spring and one of my friends introduced me to Ben Harper. Needless to say, we played it almost constatnly for the remainder of the semester. I found the songs to reach deep down inside me, to have the ability to change my outlook on a day, to make me smile. Ground on Down, Just Another Lonely Day and Burn One Down (i don't think that's the title, but it's the line that is carved into my head) and some of the best songs i've had the pleasure of listening to. If you're looking to buy a cd, you couldn't do much better than this Ben Harper. I need to thank John Bain for introducing me to such a killer disc.
Free Music Review: One Road to Freedom Hit: 5 Stars
This is BY FAR my favorite album (to date) from Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. It opens with the powerful and opinionated "Oppression" and closes on a more subtle yet heartfelt note with the quiet sounds of "One Road to Freedom". This is the 2nd release from the group and it is much more evolved and contains more rock elements than the acoustic sound heard in "Welcome to the Cruel World". Classics, such as crowd favorites "Burn One Down" and "Gold to Me" are found here. If I had to recommend any one CD from Ben Harper and his Innocent Criminals, this would be it.
Free Music Review: My Favorite Artist Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first of Ben's cd's that I bought. Not sure what to expect I was very pleased with this cd. It ranges from folk/ acoustic tunes like 'Another Lonely Day' and 'Burn one Down' to more upbeat tracks like 'Fight For Your Mind' and 'Ground on Down.' I never tire of Ben's material. The main reason I enjoy Ben so much is because of his lyrics. He really has something to say. Something that alot of bands today seem to be lacking. Add to that the fact that he is a talented musician and good singer. I suggest adding this cd to your collection. Which ever cd of Ben's you choose though, you will hardly be disappointed.
Free Music Review: What better way? Hit: 5 Stars
A cloudy day in the city of LA. Too lazy to play. What better way than to spend this day than listening to the words of Ben Harper. I have only enlightened myself in the music of Mr. Harper this past year. I hate that. Listening to "Fight For Your Mind" allows you to spend those lazy days and reflect on your own mind. Ben is one of the better writers in the realm of music. If you have this cd, you walk into his mind and he calls for the battle to walk in your own mind. This cd is solid. From start to finish, it is a great listen. Do yourself the favor and walk into your mind with this album.
