Free Music Notes for Live from MarsFree Music Review: Just Tried It, Loved It Hit: 5 Stars
I had heard a lot of good things about Ben Harper (many of them from the customer reviews of this album!) and I wanted to give it a try. I'm a fan of slow acoustics, so I picked up "Live from Mars" as my first Harper album, hoping it would live up to its reputation. It definetely did! Ben is a very talented guitarist and songwriter. He doesn't have the most amazing voice, but the voice he does have works really well with his songs. This is an awesome album to chill out to, definetely give it a try if you're a long time Harper fan but haven't heard any of his live stuff or even if you have never heard of him before. I'm going to try some of his studio albums next, but I can't wait to see him in concert!

This 2 disc collection of Ben Harper live has to be on the best cd's ever released. The 1st features Harper with his band and while it is a quality disc, it is disc 2 that steals the show. There you find an all acoustic guitar disc with nothing other than the amazing Ben Harper. Tracks like "Walk Away", "Please Bleed", "Roses From My Friends", "Another Lonely Day", and "Beloved One" are all amazing. Disc 1 may get you going but disc 2 will give you the chills. You can easily connect with Harper's heartfelt lyrics. A lot of people recommend this to listeners of Tracy Chapman and Dave Matthews...I recommend to this to anyone who likes music!
Free Music Review: Best Live Album I've Ever Purchased Hit: 5 Stars
Title says it all. This is the most amazing live album I've ever bought. From the harder riffs on Ground On Down and Excuse Me Mr. to the softer soulful Not Fire, Not Ice this album is amazing. Then there's Please Bleed, The Drugs Don't Work, Walk Away, and Roses From My Friends. If these songs don't tear at your heart then you've never been in love or music just might not be for you. Along with Blessed To Be A Witness they are some of the most powerfully moving songs I've ever listened to and the live recordings just add to it. I have nothin bad to say about this except that even at 25 songs IT'S TOO SHORT! I wanted even more live songs!!! Just an incredible piece of work. Buy it.
Free Music Review: AWESOME! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW! This set is a good one. Both CDs capture Ben's amazing energy and the enthusiasm of his fans. The first CD is really rock-inspired. Lots of guitars and instruments played by his bandmates, the Innocent Criminals. The second CD is my favorite one to listen to. The Live From Mars 2 disc set is a beautiful array of Ben's greatest live tracks. The are really chill and melodic. He really showcases his talent on this both discs. My favorites are Roses from my friends, Woman in you, The Verve cover "The Drugs don't work", and of course the CLASSIC Burn one down. I STRONGLY reccomend his set to die hard Harper fan or people who have just discovered his magic. Peace.
Free Music Review: To all Ben Harper fans....you will love this!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I cracked this open at work and played it for everyone on the morning of release day and people who had heard very little of Ben were telling me how great it was!!! I have seen him twice now, far between, when he opened for PJ Harvey in San Francisco around 1995-96--with everyone saying who is this opening act Ben Harper???? to finishing the set to a standing ovation--as well as this past year (September 2000) at the Greek Theatre on the UC Berkeley campus, which was one of the greatest gigs I have ever seen--An Epic Show--according to the best web site devoted to Ben...Just listen, this man is the real thing: faith, truth, love, music, peace.....
