Free Music Review: Bette's 1972 debut is simply.......DIVINE!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album of Bette Midler, The Divine Miss M, was released in 1972 and is one of her best albums ever. The album starts off with the smooth and intimate "Do You Want To Dance?" (which is one of my favorite songs of hers). The way she sang this song was so funny towards the climax of it, with her very audible exhale, which she does a few times until she raises her voice at the end. Wow!!! She does an excellent job on Hello In There, and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, which sounds almost like a 40s jazz arrangement, two versions of "Friends". The first version of this song starts off with the jumpy and uptempo piano beat, while the other version, which is the final song on the album, has more of a slower and different piano intro. I also love the front cover image of this album, a great illustration. When you look on the back of the CD booklet or the back cover on the LP, you can see a red tone picture of Bette, which looks almost exactly like the front cover drawing. Very neat!! I have this album on LP, tape and CD, and it is a great and truly "divine" album. For those of you who are big fans of Bette, make sure that this title is in your collection, and let Bette's "divine" voice enrich you! Kudos to Bette for her beautiful voice on this album!!

Free Music Review: It doesn't get any better

A totally classic Album.
Midler taking the best material from her live performances and putting them on an Album for the first time had to be something special and this certainly is.
Humour, pathos, camp and loads of personality. I have ownded this Album for over 30 years and never tire of it, its still makes me smile with 'Friends, Chapel of love and Leader of the pack' and still tugs at the heart strings with 'Hello in there' 'Superstar' and 'am I blue' all of which are performed to perfection and define the term 'Torch'.
'Do you want to dance' is sensuous and warm and truely stands the test of time and her version of 'Delta Dawn' hugely powerful and wonderfully mad.
The one bad thing about this album is that it makes me sad never to have seen here live in the 70's, but I was just a young boy in the English countryside. Not the most obvious audience for this album (especially as it was pre my coming out), but it reached me and has stayed with me through the years. I am thrilled to say that I finally got to see her live this year and that she is still full of all the old energy and magic - even at 62!!
Buy it and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Free Music Review: The People's Diva!
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw Bette Midler in concert in Las Vegas at Caesar's Palace at the Colosseum. I could see now why so many entertainers flock to this desert city. First, the stars like Bette perform for about 90 minutes and about 4 times per week. In New York, it's more than two hours and eight times a week. For entertainers like Bette and Cher which share the Colosseum, there is not that much time for rest and rejuvenate themselves for the next show. She sang practically her old favorites and brought back Dolores DelLago, the mermaid entertainer, and Sophie, the oldest's dancer on the strip. If you go to Las Vegas and worry about spending money on the gambling, get tickets to see Bette's show. She's wonderful and the stage is the largest that I have seen. The seats are actually comfortable but leave your camera in the hotel room because they will confiscate it and hold it until after the show. Thank God, I returned to my room and dropped off the camera before the show. Bette sure knows how to give a memorable show but don't buy this compact disc at her souvenir store because it's twice the cost. Anyway, I recommend anybody who gets to Las Vegas, see Bette. She's worth the cost!

Free Music Review: Simply Divine...Simply Miss M
Hit: 5 Stars

Well kids, who knew the girl from Honolulu, the outsider, would record such a timeless collection of hits and standards. There is not one debut album that I can think of that is as incredible as Bette Midler's "The Divine Miss M." This is Bette at her best, singing torch songs such as "Am I Blue," or knocking your socks off with a rocker such as "Hustler," or just having some kitch-y fun with "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Friends." In March of 1999, I had the great fortune of meeting Miss Midler and having her sign my vinyl copy of this timeless record. As we were talking, I commented about how this was her best album and she was flattered that someone so young (I was 13 at the time) could appreciate such a classic album. Buy this incredible piece of work by an incredible artist! You won't be sorry! And just remember...
"You can like me the way I am or you can...KISS MY BRASS!"-a quote from the Divine Miss M's latest and greatest concert tour!

Free Music Review: Midler's first is a classic!
Hit: 5 Stars

Bette Midler's first album is a classic. This album is excellent! It consists of mostly of covers including Do You Want To Dance, Chapel of Love, Superstar, Leader of the Pack, and Delta Dawn. Midler puts her classic touch on each one, making Do You Want To Dance a ballad instead of a dance tune, Leader of the Pack has more of a rock touch than the original, Delta Dawn is more inspiring than the original, and Superstar will bring you tears as only Midler can. This album also contains Bette's top 10 smash, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, her classic Friends, and the saddening ballad Hello In There. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!! If you love this Bette album, you'll love these other Bette albums: Bette Midler, Broken Blossom, Thighs and Whispers. Support Bette Midler! Buy the album here!
