Free Music Notes for Divine Miss MFree Music Review: A SMASHING DEBUT Hit: 5 Stars
Bette Midler's first studio recording is one of those rare, perfect treasures that ages like fine wine. A winning combo of classic pop, oldies re-imagined, and some wonderful kitsch and newer, ballads, this album just works. Friends appears twice, and is one of those wonderful feel-good bubbling pop songs that many of Bette's earliest fans will always associate with her, and her alone -- Do You Wanna Dance was Bette's first hit single, and has all the sultry, adult sensuality lacking from the original version; and Hello In There is one of the most poignant songs ever written about growing old, and alone. Hard to resist this terrific album, it puts a zesty smile on your face.

Free Music Review: Seminal influence Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the absolute best first albums by a pop artist to date. I remember sneaking my older sister's "Divine Miss M" album out of her room when she wasn't around and playing it on our "stereophonic hi-fi." (We're talking back in 1972 after all.) Imagine a 12-year-old girl from the 'hood crooning along with Bette Midler's "Am I Blue" and totally getting it! When I listen to this CD now, I'm still amazed at how she renders all the covers on that album as hers and hers alone...every single note, every single riff...To any and all Bette Midler newbies...get this album.
Free Music Review: Well-Rounded Album Hit: 5 Stars
This is Bette Midler's first and finest album. It's filled with standards, ballads, rock and pop songs. A great retro album that's retro itself! Here the version of SUPERSTAR that inspired the Carpenters to record their slower and mellower version. Listen to the smooth DO YOU WANT TO DANCE? Sing along to BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY and FRIENDS (2 different versions produced by 2 different people--one fo them being Barry Manilow!). This is definitely a fun album that you will be listening for years!
Free Music Review: A ROLLING STONE CLASSIC Hit: 5 Stars
ie if Rolling Stone aknowledged more female singers in their classic repitoire. I remember buying this ALBUM when I was 10! My older sister was fortunate enough to outrageously dress with her friends and attain admittance to all of her concerts. TOO DIVINE! This CD captures that time with zaniness and sincerety. I hope they release the Quatradisc version of this CD that contains 10 extra seconds at the end of DO YOU WANNA DANCE? in which Bette pleads "Please" in a srong high note.
