I have this recording on VINYL! It arrived at the little radio staion I was working at when it first came out. It's now so full of crackles and pops that I have little choice but to buy the CD, but that's OK: It's a wise investment. The ONLY reason I didn't give this wonderful record 5 stars is because the "Why Bother?" bit is really rather weak ... but overall this is a recording that any fan of stand-up comedy ought to have. It certainly helps if you are well over 30 years old, otherwise some of the humor might go over your head, because Bette skewers some of the pop icons of the mid 1980s. This CD contains the best part of Bette's act - her humor - and she is WONDERFUL! Her jokes - her pacing - she is a comic marvel, and totally captivating as an entertainer. I'm telling you - be sure to go to the lieu before you listen to this. It is so very funny -- I laughed so hard I was crying. The girls in my office came in to see why I was laughing so hysterically. This is the funniest comedy album I have heard in years, and years; and yes, even though it was released in 1989, it is still as fresh & hysterical in 1999. The bit about Madonna is worth it alone. This is Bette's only true comedy album. She only sings as a part of her act, and does none of her songs that people have grown to love. But she still delivers pure Bette. The tracks are quick and move into each other easily, and in nearly every single one there are moments when you simply must laugh out loud. The album ends all to quickly leaving you wanting more, and I listened to it over and over,and still do whenever I want to laugh and forget my troubles. Mud WILL Be Flung Tonight is a wonderful collection of humor, wit, and classic Bettisms, that pokes fun at the industry and herself. And of course there are plenty of remarks concerning her ample bosom. This is a must have for any Bette fan, as it reminds us of her concerts and movies. Midler really shines, and the gift of laughter is always precious, especially at such a wonderful price. Buy the album, it will make you laugh.
