Free Music Review: Still Worthy.

In high school, there was a point where this was one of my favorite albums of all time. I adored all of the Elephant 6 bands, and there was something about this particular album that just resonated with me; I'd lay down on the floor of the school's theater, waiting for play practice to start, listening to this album in a perfect sonic cocoon. "When Your Heartstrings Break" was, for me, an album that was part of my high school soundtrack. In order to get a real copy, I had to buy an Australian import in 2001.
Seeing Beulah on their farewell tour, and hearing how the songs they played from this album had been reworked, there was no doubt that they were a better band at later times, even if this album had a special value to me.
Looking back, some tracks drag, but this is still a perfect slice of indie pop in many ways as its standout tracks show. However, these gems are weighted towards the beginning and end of the album, leaving a pleasant, if unmemorable core. If you like Beulah's later albums, by all means pick up this one, you won't be disappointed.
Just remember, "If We Can Land a Man on the Moon, Surely I Can Win Your Heart" is still required listening for all who love indie pop.
