Free Music Notes for Dreamgirls: Music From The Motion Picture [2-CD Deluxe Edition]Free Music Review: Don't Listen To While Driving! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW!! This CD is one of my all-time favorites, and I can't believe I waited so long to purchase it. It flows along much like the movie, and one cannot help but to visualize the movie while listening to this Broadway playlike production. When I listen to this cd in my car, I can't help but want to get out of my seat and dance (not that I would recommend that)! But you will be tempted. Not only is the music heartfelt, but it also has great beats and soul with songs performed by very talented artists. As we know, these artists include Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, Beyonce', Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, and others. I can definitely see why Hudson received such rave reviews for her singing on this album, as she is very talented and has a phenomenally, powerful singing voice. Of course Anika and Beyonce' were also great to listen to. However, it would have been nice two hear a song or two featuring Anika Noni Rose as the lead singer, because she really does have a beautiful voice. Also, I just absolutely love to hear Eddie Murphy sing on this album. He's exciting to listen to, and sings with so much soul and spirit that it makes you want to dance. Jamie uses the softer sound of his voice on the songs he sings, but they are great to listen to nonetheless.
All I can say is you need to add this cd to your collection. It is upbeat and cannot help but to put anyone in a great mood. It is a must have for any music library. It is much better than the single cd, as more songs are included from the movie, as well as different versions of a few of the original song. If you like soul and true singing, get this now. One thing is for certain, I'll be listening to this one for a long time to come!
Free Music Review: THIS SOUNDTRACK IS HEAVENLY! Hit: 5 Stars
I went to see this movie twice! That's how much I loved it. And it was only logical that I bought the soundtrack. They have the 2-cd deluxe and they have the one cd soundtrack. I suggest the 2-cd deluxe because they have ALL the songs from the movie.
Jennifer Hudson was breathtaking and her voice made everyone else william hung-ish. I'm kidding, but she really stole the show. Beyonce was great as usual but I thought Jamie was just a tad bland. I know he has a better singing voice than that. He just seemed like he wasn't singing to his full potential. I also enjoyed Keith Robinson, who played C.C. White and Anika Noni Rose who played Lorrell. The fourth Dreamette who replaced Effie, whose name was Michelle, had a great voice too.
Alas, Eddie Murphy was DYNAMIC!! I don't see why everyone is so shocked by his voice. If you will kindly purchase and watch SNL: The best of Eddie Murphy,in the last sketch you will see him singing with Stevie Wonder. Watching that, only a tone-deaf fool would not realize that Eddie has an amazing singing voice. And even in the movie Trading Places when he is singing in the bathroom showcases his soul chops.
The entire movie was fantastic and so is this soundtrack. My favorite songs are 'Cadillac Car'(even the "white" version) , 'Step into the bad side', 'Dreamgirls', 'Love You I Do', 'Fake Your Way To The Top', 'One Night Only' (both versions) and that singing argument they all had with Effie before she sung 'And I Am Telling You' (hearing her sing that brings tears to my eyes, btw).
BOTTOM LINE: I loved the movie, I love the soundtrack and I believe you will too!
Free Music Review: Dreams Do Come True Hit: 5 Stars
After years of wishing and hoping this would make it to the big screen and with a cast of talent to match, DREAMS DO COME TRUE. Being a big fan of the Broadway play and the In Concert performance, this soundtrack has earned its place among those previous releases. While nothing can compare to the hungry, raw talent of the original performers, this version is simply wonderful. The new songs breathe new life into the story. The contemporary artists bring the story to those who are long time fans of the original and those who are fans of these artists and finally, last but not least, JENNIFER HUDSON. I am such a fan of the underdog. I am not a fan of American Idol but when I first heard this girl sing I started tuning in, that is until they let her go. I will long remember Barry Manilow saying to her, if this (AI) doesn't work out he would give her a contract and to find out he was instrumental in getting Clive Davis to sign her, DREAMS DO COME TRUE. Jennifer Holliday should be beaming over the fact that she has inspired this newcomer's performance. (the fact that they share the same initials was not lost on me either) The casting director should be applauded for having the vision in choosing Jennifer and Eddie Murphy. If they don't get Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, someone needs to be whipped. Jennifer, you were a mere child on AI; but you'se a woman now. I couldn't be more proud if she were my own daughter. Kudos and blessings to all.
Free Music Review: Excellent Interpretation of Classic Musical Hit: 5 Stars
Being a big fan of "Dreamgirls" over the years, I've eagerly awaited the release of the film version for more than a year. Fortunately, the soundtrack lived up to the movie's hype!
While Jamie Foxx's take on "When I First Saw You" was nothing terribly special, the rest of the cast shines throughout the soundtrack. Jennifer Hudson's voice is amazing in the role of Effie. Beyonce, Rose, & Murphy are also terrific.
Though a couple of the songs from the stage version have been dropped, all of the primary songs remain intact - with a couple of terrific songs ("Listen", "Love You I Do", & "Patience") added as well.
The double cd version contains the full soundtrack, including "Heavy" and "I Meant You No Harm" missing from the single disc version. Dance remixes of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" & "One Night Only" are also included as bonus materials.
Best Tracks include:
Move
Steppin' To The Bad Side
Love You I Do
Dreamgirls
Heavy
And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going
Patience
I Am Changing
One Night Only (both versions)
Listen
Hard To Say Goodbye
This is a great interpretation of a classic musical & probably the best since "Chicago". Can't you just smell the Oscar nominations coming?
Free Music Review: A worthy successor to the original Hit: 5 Stars
As a longtime fan of the Broadway cast album, I was more than a little apprehensive about both the Dreamgirls movie and soundtrack. The original featuring Jennifer Holiday, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine was close to perfection.
But I needn't have worried. The movie soundtrack more than stands on its own. Although it took some time for me to get used to the different vocal and musical arrangements, I've learned to appreciate it. Although I preferred the Broadway versions of the songs Dreamgirls and Steppin to the Bad Side, Eddie Murphy and Beyonce Knowles for the most part have overcome my skepticism. I love Murphy's version of "I Love You Baby" (missing on the OBC.)
Although Jennifer Holliday will always be the definitive Effie, Jennifer Hudson makes the role her own in the movie. She does an outstanding job and is well deserving of the accolades.
For me, the best part of the CD are the new songs. Although Listen is nice, it seems out of place on the soundtrack and more of a showcase for Beyonce giving her a number that will equal Effie's showstopper. But the songs Love You I Do and Patience have been on repeat in my CD player. The performances by Hudson, Murphy and the underrated Anika Noni Rose are wonderful.
I strongly recommend both the movie and CD.
