Free Music Notes for Dreamgirls: Music From The Motion Picture [2-CD Deluxe Edition]Free Music Review: A STAR IS BORN Hit: 5 Stars
Move over Aretha, step aside Mariah there's a new diva in town and her name is Jennifer Hudson. To say she steals this soundtrack is an understatement-what she does do amounts to grand larceny and larcency has never been sweeter. Her electrifying rendition alone of the heart-wrenching "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" has cinched her the next academy award for best supporting actress. She also belts "I Am Changing" and sings the soulful version of "One Night Only." This woman is amazing and i am just awestruck.
The rest of the cast,Beyonce,Jamie Foxx, etc all perform their numbers superbly but it's Eddie Murphy who is a revelation as James "Thunder" Early. He sails through "Cadillac Car" steals a bit of James Brown on "Fake Your Way To The Top" and then tears it up on "Jimmys' Rap".
This is a wonderful soundtrack but if for nothing else it must be heard just for the emergence of a celestial new mega-star-Jennifer Hudson
Free Music Review: This is the best soundtrack of 2006 Hit: 5 Stars
This is the best soundtrack of 2006. All of the cast members shine on different tracks on this CD. I really like the tracks Patience and Family. All the cast members sing together beautifully on these two tracks. I love the title track with Beyonce on lead vocals. It is a fun happy song. Beyonce also performs a very moving song entitled Listen. Jennifer Hudson is a rising talent who shines on several tracks on this CD. She shows off her strong voice on the soulful track And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going. She also sings the upbeat love song Love You I Do. This song is very sweet. Jamie Foxx shows his romantic side on the very pretty song When I First Saw You. Eddie Murphy shows that he can sing too. He is so funny on the track I Meant You No Harm. He also sounds smooth and sexy on the track I Want You Baby. One Night Only is an excellent track to move to. This is the best soundtrack I've heard in a long time.
Free Music Review: Dreamgirls is a dream of CD Hit: 5 Stars
Sound is fantastic. Of course Jennifer Hudson has a terrific voice, but thank goodness Jennifer Holiday's versions are available because Holiday remains the standard by which all others will be judged. Beyonce is just okay because I don't think she has a lot to push her voice. The song "Listen" is "just okay," as Randy Jackson would say on "American Idol." The big surprise - and most welcome - is LORETTA DEVINE. "I Miss You, Old Friend," is the best three or four minutes of music on film in many, many years. Honestly folks: Loretta Devine is the best featured performer in any film this year. I guess most people will buy the album for Jennifer Holiday and Beyonce Knowles, but they will listen again and again to the haunting "I Miss You, Old Friend," by the sublime LORETTA DEVINE. Good to see YOU, old friend!!!
Free Music Review: As Good as the original Hit: 5 Stars
Being a musical theatre actress, I am always leery of a Hollywood version of a Broadway musical. I never buy soundtracks to movies that were once Broadway shows. However, this version of one of my favorite musicals is well done and well sung. The "Pop Stars" (Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson) and the "real" actors (Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy) sing with passion and it comes through on this CD. I have a particular fondness for Jennifer Hudson and she is the star diva of this Soundtrack. Beyonce's rendition of the added song "Listen" is outstanding and the recording is worth purchasing for that song alone. Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy are both perfect in their roles and their vocal talents are up to the challenge. This Soundtrack is performed as well as the original Broadway cast recording. I am proud to own it!
Free Music Review: One of my best purchases EVER.... Hit: 5 Stars
Superb. Phenomenal. Just plain wonderful. This soundtrack is so infectious. From the first song, "Move" to the last song, "When I First Saw You." If you haven't seen the movie, the soundtrack will make you want to see it. Jennifer sings lead on several songs, "Move", "One Night Only", "I'm Changing", "Love You I Do" and of course, "And I Am Telling You..", which is just breathtaking. Jennifer H. did not try to imitate Jennifer Holiday, which I truly appreciate. She made the song her own. "Love You I Do" is just so adorable and cute. Eddie Murphy did a great job with his songs as well. I was truly surprised. The way he sung "Cadillac Car" was reminiscent of the old 'Motown Sound'. Eddie doing "Jimmy's Rap" was really good and quite humorous. This soundtrack is worth the money. Go get it already!!!!
