Free Music Review: This is the best swing disk I own!

Recently I was out on Martha's Vineyard walked into a bar/restaurant and heard this disk playing in the background. After a few cocktails we went across the street to another establishment and was on the stereo there too! This band is hot!

I am impressed with it all. The vocals, horns, pianos, and percussion are all wonderful. This is a group of musicians who not only know their own intruments well but the blend together beautifully.

Track 1, the Boogie Bumper, is a great instrumental which allows each member of the band to strut their stuff.

Mr. Pinstripe Suit, track 2, is the first song with vocals but it also has great horns and a good tune. You will be singing along in no time.

Track 3, the King of Swing, is a simple number heavy in the instrumentals. I like to run to music with a driving beat and this would be great.

Cab Calloway made Minnie the Moocher famous and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy shares thier version with us on track 4. Call me old fashioned, but this may be my favorite cut on the disk!

I noticed that track 5, You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby), has been released as a CD single. This upbeat song has strong horns, an awsome piano, good beat, and easy lyrics. This single could hit the pop charts.

After 5 great cuts, I find the album slows a bit from here. I certainly don't turn off the CD, the next few songs are just not as fun for me as the first few.

Even though Jump With My Baby (#6) does have some wonderful solos, I find the guitar a bit too modern for my taste. The song kind of reminds me of a 50's rock and roll song.

From there the beat is slowed with the Maddest Kind of Love (#7). This song really features the vocals and has deeper lyrics than music.

For fun you just cannot beat track 8, Go Daddy-O. This is another song I want to put on tape to run to. Up beat and Up lifting.

Once again, I prefer that swing bands leave the modern sounds out which is why I am not fond of Please Baby (#9). Are tracks like this attempts to convert listerners of the modern sound over to swing?

The album does begin a great ending with track 10, the Mambo Swing. I like the latin sound and it is well caputered here with strong horns to back it up.

The last 'serious' track, Jumpin' Jack, will make you body jump involuntarily the beat is so strong. Great song to dance to!

A wonderful listening experience is drawn to a close with track 12, So Long - Farewell - Goodbye. Here, it seems to me, that the band is just having fun and putting closure on the album. Serious music it is not but is is fun.
