Free Music Notes for Big River: The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn (1985 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
I recently saw this show starring one of my old tv favorites! I now own the CD and it is always in my CD player. My favorite song is "Leavin's not the only way to go" I feel sad for Huck becuse he had to chose between a friend (a real good one at that) and the girl he is in Love with. The song is so moving! It always makes me tear up! My next favorite song would have to "Hand For A Hog" it's so funny! I wish I could find sheet music so I could play the songs on my piano! I played this CD at my friend's party and at first they didn't like it but by the time we hit number 3 "The boys" they were so totally in to it and I'm talking about 15 year olds! That has got to say something about this CD!
Free Music Review: Who would have thought? Hit: 5 Stars
Roger Miller wrote and performed mostly light-hearted, sometimes goofy, but clever, country songs. Then, after he had left the stage for almost a generation, he penned this classic musical.
When I first saw it performed in a regional theater, I had to be convinced that it was the same Roger Miller.
Who would have thought he had so wide a range in musical styles, such with virtuosity in all of them?
The songs range from sensitive to hilarious, giving as wide a range of emotion as one could expect from a musical. This is a musical for everybody -- even those who dismiss the musical-theater genre as too frivolous for their masculinity!
Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the Deaf West Theater production of this and they were absolutely amazing. So I bought this CD and I love it, but I do wish the Deaf West Theatre would do a recording I loved it on stage and with the sign language...wow it was stunning. This CD is great the voices arn't quite as good as the people I saw on stage, but at least its a recording of this amazing music. The only complaint I have is that some songs are way to short. I wish most of them would be longer, but I guess that's a good problem to have. Anyway buy this CD, it is an amazing musical and it's sad not more people have heard of it.
Free Music Review: Astounding Music and Lyrics Hit: 5 Stars
Roger Miller has done it! The music and lyrics for "Big River" are sheer Americana! I bought this CD on a whim, having only seen bits and pieces of the play, and boy am I glad I did! The music will have you dancing and singing along! Its riotous, rowdy mood makes it hard to sit still to listen through! The lyrics can be emotional at one point, and goofy at another! The lyrics in "Hand for the Hog" reminded me of an old-time auction, while the lyrics for "Worlds Apart" are passionately engrossing, and still give me chills!A definite catch!
Free Music Review: Just wondering Hit: 5 Stars
This isn't a review, but a fact finding mission. I just ordered the CD and have read other people's comments. Can anyone tell me why this play is rarily, or never performed? There always is a reason. How many main characters are there, not including the town folks or chorus? If a person wanted to perform this, and wanted to assure that 50 of his closest friends would be on stage, would this be possible, or would it look like he was trying to fill up the stage with people? I'll do some digging on Google in the mean time.
Thanks!
