I got this CD and it is pure sweetness. If you go to the BigDumbFace sight in interviews and read what guitar world said in Wes's 60 minutes, that really hits the nail on the head. There are so many layers to this CD that it is like a music supercomputer program ready to be sprang on the unsuspecting public. In a nutshell, there are three types of songs on here-insane awesome and strangely enough non-redudntant death metal that lyrically pokes fun at the "im more advanced than anyone else right now" mentality that death metal bands have, rock electronic-new wave songs, straight up new wave songs, and country tinged songs. Organ Splitter and Burglaveist boast head pounding double bass and guitar riffs that are pretty cool but masked under synths of some sorts. The song structures and the individual parts themselves are really cool and really different compared to the 99.9% of death metal that is completely stupid and stale. The more new-wave-y songs like Might P***s lazer and Kali is the Sweethog are really funny lyrically and are and have lots of cool sonic goodies and ear candy. Every song on this CD is really good, and more importantly, really different from one another. I love how Wes just takes jab after jab at the three big things today-Death Meta, New Wave, and Country. Rebel is such a great stab at the "ya'll wanna faight?" mentality that certian southereners have that have unfortunately become the sterotype of the southern man, but Wes isn't outright calling all southerners renecks-after all, him and the rest of LB are from the south.
and by the way, Wes (along with Josh Freese on drums ill betcha a squillion dollars its him behind the kid) recorded a new Big Dumb Face song last last year that is absolutely incredible. It is called Darkness Becomes and is available in one of the 13 or so news posts on his Wes.Borland.net but NOT ON THIS CD OR ANY OTHER CD OUT THERE-IT IS AVAILABLE AS LEGAL AS WELL AS FREE DOWNLOAD ONLY!!!
DOWNLOAD IT!!!!!1 holy hell!!! This song is an 8 minute speed metal freakout with arguably Wes's best playing it. You get it all in that song-the awesome acoustic opener, the huge monsterous thrash metal riffs, this insane and unstable solo, more insane riffs, a bass breakdown, a piano/hooror movie sample breakdown, another insane solo that is almost Petrucci-like and has Wes going nuts with shred-arpeggios and ends in a brilliant whammy bar/note bend that is such an incredibly climactic ending to the solo.(to offset the first solo that resembles faux satanic metal weiners slayer). Then it goes back into the thrash metal and groove metal riffs to finish the song off. It is without a doubt one of the top 5 best songs in Thrash metal (even tho Wes's vox are pro-toolsed way low to make fun of/imitate the death metal voice) and if you are the kind of person who can listen to a song way beyond the singing like myself then youll love it.
All in all, BDF is awesome insane headphone music that makes fun of every lame genre that is big today (except whatever you would classify Outkast's "hey ya" as, or then again, maybe it does that too in Kali is the Sweethod. hmmm) This is great funny music that is made really well and the CD is REALLY diverse. None of the songs sound like repeats of prior or upcoming ones and it is just sweet.

Big Dumb Face has created a big, dumb record--intentionally so. Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland's side project is so self-indulgent it's almost endearing. Almost. From the GWAR-meets-Cannibal Corpse death-metal attack of "Burgalveist" to the "Bonanza"-theme feel of "Duke Lion" to the Martian-style vocals of "Kali is the Sweet Hog," Borland, who apparently plays all the CD's instruments, is goofy rather than clever. While vaguely reminiscent of a side project from Primus bassist/musical genius Les Claypool or something from Mr. Bungle, Big Dumb Face lacks stellar musicianship or redeeming moments of brilliance or true humor. Yet it's also quite clear Borland intends this to be merely an amusing, wacked-out aural freak-out--the disc ends with a nearly 20-minute oddball opus featuring lengthy moments of nothing but doors opening or footsteps, and, at minute 11, a really bad drum solo. While Bizkit fans may eat this up, to quote Spinal Tap, "There's a fine line between clever and stupid," and Big Dumb Face falls squarely on the stupid side. --Katherine TurmanAlternative Rock Music CDs
