Free Music Notes for 1st Born Second AlbumFree Music Review: Gritty, Raw, Real, FRESH Hit: 5 StarsI had to type this review because I was disappointed by the 4-star ratings. If I could give this album (1st Born Second) 7 stars, I would. Bilal gave breath to a neo-soul movement that has been stuck on the same-sound, same-tempo, and same coffeehouse poetry messages for a decade. He was definitely the most underrated artist of 2001---regardless of music genre. The radio-released "Soul Sista" and "Fast Lane" do not do justice to the remaining material which is far superior. However, if you are the type of neo-soul fan who enjoys elevator music soul (often used a backdrop to sipping wine by candlelight, pedicures, and getting your hair "did"), then probably this album will not satisfy.
