Free Music Review: Back in the days when commedy was really funny.

I stand firmly by that statement. Nowadays those who consider themselves commedians seem to feel they need to swear every other word and make crude jokes in order to sell albums. Don't get me wrong, my sense of humor can be a bit twisted at times but comedians like Eddie Murphy and Dane Cook (although I'll admit there were some bits on his albums that I could relate to), just don't cut the cracker. Nowadays the only commedian that comes close to Bill Cosby in my mind is Bill Engvall. Most of his albums are material that, if I had kids, I would feel safe listening to with them in the car...not that blind folks like myself are ever likely to be able to drive, a fact for which we should probably all be profoundly thankful. But both Bill Engvall and Bill Cosby, with a few exceptions, are commedians I would feel safe exposing kids to.
Wonderfulness is one of the small collection of Cosby albums my dad used to own when my siblings and I were growing up. He might even still have them, although I doubt he has a record player anymore. This wasn't the first album of COsby's that I was exposed to, but it was, interestingly enough, the first Cosby album my dad received as a kid. He listened to it while recuperating from a broken leg he'd acquired while skiing as I recall.
Wonderfulness is chalk full of Cosby brand comedy, full of weird voices, sounds and, best of all, wholesome. Who hasn't been afraid of the monster under the bed or in the closet? Whho, for that matter, has never dreamed of playing hooky from school? And of couse we've all had what at the time were terrifying doctor visits where our chief concern was whether or not we were going to get the dreaded needle! Hell, I'm almost twenty-nine and I still hate 'em! The long and short of it is that Cosby's humor is stuff we can all relate to. And of course it begs the question of where all the good commedy disappeared to over the years.
