Free Music Review: Master Blaster on the Telecaster

Bill Kirchen is in typically fine form on HAVE LOVE, WILL TRAVEL. The band is tight and interesting; Kirchen's singing is warm, humorous and appealing; and, as all his fans know, he is the greatest Telecaster player in the world.
As the above description fits every Kirchen CD I've ever heard, the only criteria I have for varying my ratings on his CDs is the completely subjective one of song selection. And on this CD I like it. HLWT begins with a very good and quite different version of "Womb to the Tomb", an older version than the one frequently heard on his later discs. Other highlights for me are "Which Came First", "Nitro Express", "Swing Fever" which features the great line, "I'm about as caffeinated as I want to be, and I'm sittin' here buzzin' like a cheap TV.", and a GREAT version of "What's the Matter with the Mill" which features Kirchen's a** kicking, burning rock and roll guitar work.
Finally, there is a sleeper song that I love on the CD called "The Heart is a Muscle", which is basically R&B/Soul. It's a well sung and pretty song, with Kirchen providing some beautiful Steve Cropperesque soul fills.
I highly recommend HLWT.
