Free Music Review: Eerie but somehow pleasant

Let's not kid ourselves - compared with her best years, this album is nothing more than a spooky reminder. However, Holiday uses what little was left of her voice with surprising dexterity, making this strange CD somehow pleasant and historically interesting. Arragements are OK, with Harry Edison, Al Cohn and others giving fine support.
Incidentally, Billie's later years recordings with Ben Webster are more satisfying than this, while her appearance in "Sound of jazz" TV show (available on DVD) shows her past her prime but still amazing, in company of Lester Young, Roy Eldridge, Gerry Mulligan and other giants.
