Free Music Notes for Mermaid Avenue

Free Music Review: One of the years best , a must have
Hit: 5 Stars

The music combined with the words of a fifties poet/songwriter give a sound that I haven't heard in long time. "Califronia Stars", "I guess I planted" and "sad and lonely at my window " are the best songs I think of this album. Everyone showed own this album nomatter if you like Jay-z to the Alabama. Its one of those things you'll hate to miss.

Free Music Review: Excellent music ... to timeless lyrics of Woody Guthrie
Hit: 5 Stars

Uncovering previously unrecorded lyrics of Woody Guthrie, and setting them to music by Billy Bragg and Wilco ... is like opening a new piece of Americana. Guthrie's lyrics stand up remarkably to the test of time. Bragg and Wilco do a great job of not letting the music overcome the lyrics .. and in writing music that "fits" Guthrie's lyrics. Nice job!!

Free Music Review: Thanks Nora! Great Idea
Hit: 5 Stars

We should all thank Nora Gutherie for selecting Billy Bragg and Wilco to put this album together. What a fantastic combination. There are several wonderful songs on this cd. My favorite is "Hesitating Beauty". I was lucky enough to see Wilco perform this on Prairie Home Comapanion last week. It caused me to revisit this album and I'm glad I did.

Free Music Review: It is so beyond good
Hit: 5 Stars

This C.D. is so touching. It has a wide variety from slow, soothing songs like California stars, to the happy, silly song like Hoodoo Voodoo. The only bad thing about this album that I can see is that the lyrics are so deepthat it's not a C.D. that you'll want to put on while you read, or clean the house or what ever. I can't wait for volume 2.

Free Music Review: One of the best in the last three years
Hit: 5 Stars

While I've listened to a little Billy Bragg and Wilco/Uncle Tupelo over the years, I was floored by how unbelievably good this album was. Although I liked the _Folkways_ tribute to Guthrie and Leadbelly a few years back, that record pales in comparison to this one. I agree with the other reviewer who votes for this as album of the year.
