Free Music Review: Billy Elliot London Cast Soundtrack
Hit: 4 Stars

It's bloody brilliant. I'm about to see the NY staging and I wanted to get a taste for the music. Elton John's songs tell the narrative in a powerful and believable way and do a great job of setting the stage for what I hope are incredible dance sequences. Haydn Gwynne is a standout as Mrs. Wilkinson and Ann Emery almost steals the show in one number, "Grandma's Song." Other favorites include "Electricity," performed by the titular character and the deeply moving, "He Could be a Star." Definitely recommend the soundtrack.

Free Music Review: Repeating the live theater experience
Hit: 4 Stars

While I've never heard any of Elton John's songs from this performance being whistled by people on the street, the music is engaging enough to want to hear it a few more times after leaving the theater. Better yet, my advice is to listen to this recording BEFORE enjoying the live performance. Given the British accent and some questionable acoustics, one can miss important chunks of lyrics in a theater setting. If you close your eyes while listening to this recording, you can even visualize the dancing.

Free Music Review: Hey, it's Elton
Hit: 4 Stars

I buy Broadway show albums only for shows I've seen. Sometimes the album gives an opportunity to concentrate on the music and lyrics, without the distraction of all the activity on stage. This time, in addition to mentally recreating the show, the variety of Elton John's music shines through. I had been waiting for a NY cast recording, but it was not to be, so we miss Gregory Jbara as Dad, who was wonderful in NY. As an aside, I recommend Sir Elton's "Aida", an underappreciated gem.

Free Music Review: Perfect new Musical
Hit: 4 Stars

When I'm first listened to Billy Elliot, i though I can hear Les Mis, Miss Saigon and a bit of Cabaret. Now I am the opinion that this is a brilliant new Musical, with a lot of hearted characters.

I also like to hear "Marry Christmas Maggy Thatcher", a song, that's only possible in England with it's dark British Humour.

I think this musical is grand night out.

Free Music Review: Elton John's musical
Hit: 4 Stars

Very British in its style with lots of thumping music.
There are some beautiful songs -Electricity- that make the record collection worth having.
