I saw Billy Joel Twice - The "River Of Dreams" and "Nylon Curtain tours. amazing performances. But you could her the deterioration in his voice (and sadly, the Ron Popeil spray on hair on his bald spot)by the time "dreams" came out. Still two amazing concerts.
I don't know the slop artist who mixed this album or the a**kisser who convinced him to put this piece of a**hattery out on CD. This doesn't just suck - it sucks on stilts.
Obviously he's gotten past the point of caring, following the Pete Townshend business plan. I mean really - I remember a time when i had track down Bootlegs in greenwich village if i wanted a live recording. Now you can't get away from them - ditto for the greatest hits CDs.
The man is one of the greatest songwriters - up there with Townshend, Springsteen and The Beatles. His albums are in practically every record collection on the planet. why would you want to tarnish such an amazing body of work with this dreck?
It saddens me. My son is eight. he's been playing the piano since three. he idolizes Billy Joel (and in case anyone's wondering - no I do not allow him to listen to "Captain Jack").
What's really pathetic is the complete lack of embarassment. The NY Times gave this cd rave reviews. Figures. never let a good leftist go unpraised. When he duets with Elton john it's sounds like dueling drag queens. The key is so low it sounds like a subway going under my feet. Carol Channing could do a better job.
give it up, man. teach, compose classical pieces - heck get a job as a judge on "American Ido". But stay off the stage. You're ripping off all the pathetic fans (the same ones who see The Rolling Stones and say "THEY'RE BETTER THAN EVER!!!)who refuse to
believe that their "Heros are now about ten years into AARP membership.
