Volta as all Bjorks works is full of surprises, most of them pleaseant ones for me. This is an album product of a very creative, talented, and free ARTist, Believe me! there is some art going on here, just have your headphones on, and play "Wanderlust", you will "feel" with I am talking about. That is pure perfection!
Bjork has given us (or at least me) some of those songs that are chill to the bone-beautiful, almost unbearable to listen to, i.e. Unravel, Pagan Poetry, Vokuro, Desired Constallation. and in Volta you wil find some gems like those of previous albums. Definetelly, Bjork doesn't fit in any music genre and definetly NOT POP!! She is unique, and her music is art to be indulged in, an unpredictable feast to the ears!
Free Music Review: DON'T LET THEM DO THAT TO YOU!! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm seeing way too many so-so reviews on this board. I think that most people are probably too busy listing to (and loving) the album to bother with a review. That said, I think this album is absolutely amazing. Every single song gives me chills. It's completely exciting, crazy, danceable, heartbreaking, beautiful, sad. There is such a scope of emotions that Bjork covers that I really haven't heard from her since Homogenic. 110% worth buying.
Declare Independence is one of the most exciting songs I've ever heard. Hands down. It's not a song, it's an experience. My heart is beating faster by the end of it, and I feel like I'm out of breath.
Free Music Review: Crazy Awesome Music!! Hit: 5 Stars
Bjork's music has always made me drop my mouth in complete awe, due to its originality and catchy, sometimes slow, sometimes fast beats. So, when I found out she was coming out with a new album, I was stoked, because I knew it was going to be a wonderfully fun album! And how right I was.
Bjork's Volta contains songs that are so much fun to listen to, some are slow and easy-listening (Declare Indepence, Earth Intruders), but some are fast and fun to dance and sing to (Innocence). This is a stellar album from a stellar artist, and it's a must for people who are tired of the old, overplayed music.
Free Music Review: bjorks music needs no definition Hit: 5 Stars
If you are a TRUE fan of Bjork, you will definitely enjoy this cd with all its experimentation. As other reviewers have pointed out, this doesn't have the perfection "as a whole" as does Vespertine or Homogenic. But I must say its a much grander effort than that of Medulla. In her podcasts she says this was her "rebelling" and she just had to let the "teenager" in her roll. So in short, its not the most mature album of hers to date, but it is playful and energetic, in the greatest respect.
Think Hunter, Army of Me, Alarm Call with a tribal twist.
Free Music Review: An artsy CD Hit: 5 Stars
Of course, when it comes to art, everyone seems to have his own dictionary.
For me, this Bjork album is a pleasure to have around.
Maybe a carefull listener will find some brief borrowings from Portishead, and maybe some will wish more complexity in the vocals (which in some tracks sounds somewhat simplistic compared to the complexity of the orchestration) but overall it is a very nice piece of art (in my dictionary).
