Free Music Review: ROCK++++++
Hit: 5 Stars

THE BLACK CROWES NEW CD RULES! BY YOUR SIDE RULES, ALL THEIR MUSIC IS TOP OF THE LINE ROCK NNNNNN ROLL BABY. I seen the BC in San Antonio with Lenny Kravitz and they made Lenny Kravitz look like a high school band. Although Lenny is very good. You don't find great solid bands like the Black Crowes anymore. There all spin off's of creed and stabbing westward. All bands that sound the same: oleander, vertical horizon and whoever else that fits the picture of a boy band with a guitar player instead of another dancer in the background. All in all, this cd as well as all the other Black Crowes are beautiful music man. Can't wait for the next cd. Also don't compare it to their old cd's, that would be next to moronic. Any bands music changes over time. Most of the time its bad. As for this new Black Crowes, nothing beats it right now. It simply rocks dude....

Free Music Review: fun, energetic, soul singin
Hit: 5 Stars

Midnight From The Inside Out- A decent rocker that will keep you singing along.

Lickin'- Reminds me of Led Zeppelin's "Sick Again", although it's totally different.

Come On- A nice fun song that reminded me of Aerosmith.

No Use Lying- not one of the stronger tracks, but it's still a good song.

Losing My Mind- The music and vocals blend to take this song to another level, the most emotional track.

Ozone Mama- a Southern rocker that over uses the word y'all.

Greasy Grass River- The chorus reminds me of the Beatles.

Soul Singing- I would go to church every Sunday if they played this song.

Miracle To Me- a nice ballad, excellent vocals.

Young Man, Old Man- blah blah rolling stones.

Cosmic Friend- another song reminding me of Zeppelin.

Cypress Tree- this one goes to the bone baby.

Lay It All On Me- a slow but powerful song.

Free Music Review: Finally...
Hit: 5 Stars

I was a huge fan of the Black Crowes, but something happened. After the outstanding Shake your.., Southern Harmony and Amorica, they slipped with Three Snakes and sank completely with By Your Side (which was truly an awful album). I was afraid they wouldn't make another album of the same caliber as their first three (which were three of the best albums of the 90's). Lions, however, is as good if not better than anything they have ever done. It is incredible, one of the best rock n roll albums to come out in a long time. Lions isn't immediately catchy, but give it a couple of listens. I saw them live recently, and 80% of their show was drawn from Lions, with the other 20% from their first three efforts. The Crowes know they had a couple of disappointing albums before Lions, but this one returns them to their glory days.

Free Music Review: Do You Smell Burning Rope?
Hit: 5 Stars

If you buy into the premise that The Black Crowes are the Led Zeppelin of the new millennium (and frankly, this may be a disservice to both bands), then "Lions" could very well be their "Led Zeppelin III" or "Physical Graffiti." In addition to the gutbucket, bluesy sonics we've come to expect from the brothers Robinson (especially evident on the first three tracks), The Black Crowes also mix in some tasty acoustic touches, best showcased on "Losing My Mind" and "Cypress Tree." The Black Crowes have grown and stretched out so much since their first album that "Hard To Handle" almost sounds like a novelty song compared to "Lions." In the great tradition of groups fueled by sibling rivalry (see Oasis and The Kinks), "Lions" delivers the goods.

Free Music Review: Just What You're Looking For!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

The Black Crowes have never been able to make a slick record and get away with it. Their "minimalist" angle to studio recordings was bypassed with 1999's "By Your Side", but the boys are back to their old ways and rocking just like a true live band can do. Much of "Lions" is made up of the demo tracks recorded prior to heading into the studio with a bonafide producer (the amazing Don Was). This gives the album a genuine live feel that most contemporary rock records lack with their immense overdubs. Of course, overdubbing can be found on this record, but with 85% of the demo tracks used, this record is fresh and pleasing to the ears. The emotions evoked during the demo process can truly be felt. And with hooks as gorgeous as anything being done today, "Lions" is sure to be a critic's favorite for a long, long time.
